Thanks Bill/Bob/Willis~~(it's starting already.) ha ha ha. 'The mind is a terrible thing to waste. LOL I have been and continue to pour through books on addiction, healthy food, psychology, sociology, mysticism, Metaphysical Meditations, Spiritual sayings and even Mertons, The Seven Story Mountain which, if you can believe it was a terrific incentive to 'get a grip.
Eyja, thankyou so much. Your words are music to my ears. Feedback is so important. Even if I don't post until I'm a week clean I will be checking back and hope that more friends will breath fire and get me to the finish line never to look back. I am not nervous, having tried so many times, but excited to like myself a lot more and have my grown children respect and love the new me without my attachment to nasty nicodemon. [None of my four sons smoke.]
Hey Hot Jim, thanks a bunch for the welcome and support. I'm roaring to go. Today I spoke on the phone with helpline support worker with Canadian Cancer Society. We set Saturday as my first clean, smoke-free day beginning on my good health journey and she has promised that she or someone else will be calling me regularly so that is so encouraging. I sincerely believe that we cannot fail because we have faith, courage and enthusiasm.
And to max londonmay I suggest we chant the above mantra as we squeeze that rubber ball which you got one of or similar facsimile; I have one that lights up when I throw it. Let's keep laughing and they'll wonder what we're up to. Three of my sons are celebrating birthdays this month and this will be their present from me as well as one to myself, my friends and my doctor. Oh, and my neighbour who complained all summer about my smoke blowing over to her balcony; how shameful is that. Tisk. It's a mountain we're climbing so let's hang on tight.
In preparing for my quit I shopped from a list of good food to make so that I would be prepared for the munchies. I find that three solid meals a day at regular hours with two snacks in between help me avoid the poisons I was tempted to stuff in my face. I continue walking and if I plan to be out past meal time I take a little lunch and stop at McDonald's or one of those and give myself a fruit and fibre muffin with coffee after eating my sandwich. I, so far, am keeping my weight the same and that is good enough for me right now. Love your body; treat it well and it will take care of you. imho
