Welcome Thaw! You have chosen an excellent place to be! Read read and read some more, all the posts you can, they really help. There is a ton of wonderful information to help you here and a lot of wonderful people to help you too! It is amazing how much of a difference support can make! Make yourself at home, find a buddy or ten who all quit around the same time as you, and hang together, it makes a difference! Post often, there's always someone close by! Congratulations on quitting and keep strong, you are almost thru the worst of it! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 95 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,375 Amount Saved: $1,002.25 Life Gained: Days: 11 Hrs: 16 Mins: 1 Seconds: 36

My main technique is pretty stubborn. I had two years of success with it last time. I basicall look at smoking as a yes or no question. You either smoke or you don't. Sounds simple and dumb but it's me. Another silly thing I would do is hold my hand up and wiggle my pinky and ask myself "Who's moving your pinky? You are..." Sounds silly but it helped me stay in control. Only I can make or break this. I also go about my life as normal. Same friends, hang outs, smokers or not. I am the king of this castle. Hi, Jon! GOOD FOR YOU for being persistent! I started smoking when I was 13 years old (I'm now 49), so I know what it's like to "grow up" addicted. Like you, I've done the on again/off again thing. *sigh* This time I reeeeeeally want it, though!! Hang tough. I'm new here, too, but this feels like a good place. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/15/2007 Smoke-Free Days: -6 Cigarettes Not Smoked: -120 Amount Saved: $-24.00 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: -53062

Thaw, Welcome to our support community! One step at a time and you can see this through :) Congrats on making it through and please share with us your coping mechanisms and avoidance techniques so that we may all learn :) Setting an example for your children is a great incentive, so post often and let us help achieve your goal! I wanted to make sure I made it through my first day before I started bragging, but here I am halfway through my second day and I am striong. I haven't been making a big deal about this, just gonna do it. again. I smoked my first cig when I was about 9 and by 13 I was regular. I quit on three different occasions once for 10 months, another for 2 months and two years ago I stopped for nearly two years! But one cigarette was all it took and I was back. My dad died at 45 from high blood pressure and he was a semi heavy smoker. I have several kids and I owe it to them to be there. My friend led me here and I like what I see so far. Thanks!
