I don't know if I would describe myself as more calm now or not, but I definitely feel like I am thinking more clear. Maybe it is the increased amount of oxygen to our brains that has us feeling this way! LOL :)

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

Hi Nascar, I can relate to how you are feeling. I find I'm way more peaceful and pleasent to be around since I quit. I like you I have way more patients for my children (especially my 3 year old). For me I think its because I'm not constantly anxious about when I can go for my next smoke. I was a bad mom a lot of the time, and I will admit it. I would put my need to smoke over the needs of my kids sometimes. I would rather go outside and have a smoke then play cars!! It was selfish, but hey I was an addict. Now I have all the time in the world and a clean house too. I feel peaceful like I said and so much happier. And yeah, my kids are happier too. That I handle things better now? I am on day 4 and I have been really calm. Like more so than when I was smoking. It's almost like my rational side is emerging?!?! I find myself being more patient with my son and hubby. My house has never been this clean, btw! Anyhow has anyone else found this to be true? Could it be that I am a different person now that I quit? I will say that it does take my inner voice to calm me every once in a while but for the most part, I just get over it, kwim? I just think it's strange and I am hoping that this is just the new me and not some facade that is going on! If this is real, I am so ready for it!!! Thanks for your support! I thank you for sharing your stories with me skidoo & 4my2girls! It is good to know that this feeling may be real and not just some early stage quit allusion! I never left my post before this either 2girls, that is one of the most bothersome things that I did. Ignored my child because I couldn't handle the thought of not smoking that long. I mean come on, that is just sad. I am happy that I see this now and can hold on to it, tight! Thank you all for your responses. I understand that I will go through some hard times, which I have already, but I know I can overcome any craving. My son means so much to me and the thought of letting myself & him down breaks my heart!! Hi there! I totally know what you are talking about!! That is me that you described! I am definately more calmer and have more patience with my girls now, than when I smoked! Just as skidoo said -- except I still beat myself up for being such a bad mom. It sounds so horrible to actually admit that I always put my needs and my addiction ahead of my childrens lives. I won't go into details, but lets just say I was a true addict. I never left my post. Anyhow, yes, I think this is a new you! Enjoy it! I love the new me, I still have my ups and downs, and my happys and sads, but I feel so peaceful most of the time. I love it. Enjoy yourself! Take care, and congratulations on your 4th day!!! ;) 4my2girls What Consumes Your Thoughts Controls Your Life My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 75 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,250 Amount Saved: $245.25 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 0 Mins: 52 Seconds: 17

everyone's quit is individual and different. I'm very happy for you that you are experiencing early these positive benefits. I'll leave it to the experts to perhaps explain better the chemical balances and whatnot that are reestablishing themselves within you which may give a more scientific explanation to your experiences. What I can say is that 'calm' is definitely a side effect resulting from not smoking - from the freedom of smoking - from regaining the reigns. Document this discovery for future reference. It may come in handy. Enjoy your new (non-addicted) self. keep fightin' the good fight - fish My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/21/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 148 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,460 Amount Saved: $740 Life Gained: Days: 19 Hrs: 5 Mins: 21 Seconds: 41
