Disastrous Weekend

Never fear Mistymoonlight! I'm so happy with my smoke free life. Often now things happen and I don't even think of smoking. It gets easier and easier all the time. Hang in there! I read somewhere - I think in the Allan Carr book - and it really stuck with me and it pops into my head every time I have another crisis and want to quit quitting (and it does still happen to me quite often). When a non-smoker gets a flat tire, he reaches for his jack and spare tire. When a smoker gets a flat tire, he reaches for a cigarette. That means more things to me than I can articulate at this moment, but I basically keep reminding myself of it so that I don't waste too much time wanting a cigarette when i could be putting my life back together. You know? *Hugs Lady* I hope all is well with you now. Tryagain, Listen to me. We are not talking about craving. I know it seems imposible to get over but you will. I must admit it did take me over a year to really become comfortable with not smoking. The real reason it took me so long was because of all the emotional issues that I use to mask with the smoking. DON'T FREAK OUT HERE!!! You are making great progress. When I posted this orginally, I was having a real crisis going on. It was the thought of smoking not an actual craving. I was ready to say forget it because smoking had been my way to deal with any crisis for as long as I could remember. I didn't actually crave. It wasn't anything like that first year. More like a thought. Don't give up on your quit. As for ButterflySwimmer, whe was quit almost 2 years not four. She had also gone back to smoking several times during her quit. They were for short periods but there were several instances when she smoked. I know this for a fact because we quit within weeks of eachother. The point is that no matter what may go wrong in our lives, we will not find the solutions we are looking for in any cigarette. To light up again would be a mistake. They say it takes 1 to 1.5 years to actually quit smoking. That we must experience all the seasons in order to be considered truly quit. This was the case with me. I have 800 plus smoke free days and I am proud of each and every one of them. Some were hard. Some I had to work extremely hard to keep. One day you wake up and you realize that you just don't think about smoking or even quitting anymore. Hang on for that moment. It's an awesome feeling! I hope this helps. Brenna - ten YEARS! How does someone survive ten years of cravings? I'm ready to throw in the towel in barely a year of constant cravings. I don't imagine suriviving ten years of cravings. When I read the stories of heroisim, of bravery here, over 800 days and still craving, that other woman Butterfly Swimmer went back to smoking after four years. Heck, I went back to smoking after three years. Is there any real hope, or is it just a lifelong constant battle full of pain and eventual disappointment? Bobbie, how did your husband survive ten years of craving? I think I'm going to have to go through the same thing. Dear Lady, I am glad to see you held your Quit. What a strong and wonderful lady you are. I have had a couple of wobbles myself but hey, I have made it past nine months - which was when I caved last time I tried - and when the going was tough this tme. Sadly, or maybe it is meant, I had tough times right around that time. As you say - smoking would have changed none of those times. Stay strong - and hugs from the Scotland! Lady, So sorry to hear you had a bad weekend. So glad you didn't give in to the smokes, I just talked to unhooked not to long ago and said at times I feel like a freak, that I still have moments that I want to smoke sooooo bad, but seems like most on the board to me is like after you reach a certian amount of mo. you should be over the craves, should be stronger, my husband has even told me at times it shouldn't be that hard by now, he quit 37 years ago, told him has been so long for him he has forgotten, well he had a hard time for 10 years but since has never wanted one, like he never smoked! Well I do thank you for telling how close it came for the smokes, helps me to not feel like a freak with my feelings. again so sorry about your weekend, what ever happened must have been really bad! Blue Cloud, I see where your daughter gets it from. You are an awesome group of people. I'm glad God has blessed my life with your family. I thank him for people like you. Just look at your meter!!!!! 108 days! WOW!!!! AMAZING. Keep it up, you're doing great. I am finding my way. Mainly, by getting ticked off enough to move forward. I guess it doesn't matter how we move on as long as we continue to grow. Right?
