Quitting smoking cold turkey Feb 22

Welcome Moka!

I am very sorry to read about your mom. I am sure she will be very happy once you are able to quit successfully.

Congrats on getting started. Be sure to read through the program and the forums in order to work on your quit plan. Also, you may want to talk to your doctor about quit aids as using a quit aid may increase your chances of success.

Today is the day! How is it going so far?

Hi Moka,
I wish you the best on your quit journey. I see you've went through part of the "my program", hope you learned some tips to help you out. The only words of encouragement I can offer is  "be prepared" for all of the triggers that make you want to smoke. You CAN do this, trust me. I smoked for 37 years and I've been smoke free for over 4 years now. You just have to make the decision to take charge and quit, no ifs ands or butts about it. (No pun intended ) YOU have to be in charge, not those nasty cigarettes. Make your mom proud and give it up for good this time. Keep us posted on your progress, and if you get an urge, stop and get on here and write about it. By the time you're done the urge should be gone.
Stay strong!

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

I am a lifelong smoker of 30 years. I started smoking in my teens because I thought it was cool and although I've had many attempts to quit, I've always gone back to smoking. I've tried the gum, mostly, and while it helps me my smoking count down, it  hasn't lasted long term. My mom has also been a life-long smoker and she quit within the past few years. She now has Stage 4 Lung Cancer. My grandmother also died of Lung Cancer. I smoke in the house and the car. I would love to be smoke free, but when I try to cut down, I pop right back up, giving in just after a day or two. This is why I am going cold turkey. I just have to quit. I've set my quit date for the day after tomorrow and I'm going to use this site and forum for support. Please help me prepare for my quit. I'll accept any words of encouragement.

Thank you.
