One of the great things about this site, CandyLou, is that all methods of quitting are accepted here. When I first quit I found a few of those sites too before I found this one. I had tried wellbutrin and zyban at different times and found the same thing...I got that yucky nervous feeling, and they didnt really help me quit.
This time around I used chantix and found it to be amazingly helpful. I also used to suffer from depression and was very worried that once I was done with the chantix I'd go into a tail spin, but I'm so happy to report that I haven't had any depressive episodes since going off the chantix. Not sure why, but I'm guessing that my brain chemistry has been permanently altered in a good way. I followed the directions on the chantix and it worked for me.

Welcome to the SSC and congratulations on making the decision to quit smoking. We recommend that you keep your physician or health care professional apprised of any disrupting side effects from the Zyban. If you need to discuss side effects at length, your pharmacist can be a great resource!
Please remember, Zyban is not a magic bullet. For this reason, we strongly recommend you prepare for your quit by utilizing the tools in your glove compartment to help you put together a quit plan. Some of the exercises will also better prepare you for what to expect in terms of withdrawals.
So I just tried to take Zyban (Wellbutrin) in hopes that it would help me quit and I could not stand the agitation that it caused me. Has anyone else had experience with this? I am feeling very discouraged :( Should I be posting this somewhere else?
I'm not even sure if I can talk about this here b/c I know that I saw a few other forums that did not allow talk of use of patches or medication.
Wow. Thank you guys so much for responding. It is so inspiring to read some of your profiles! I am very very happy to be here and am very excited about quitting. I have to say that when I quit a few years ago I felt amazing. I got my energy and confidence back. It was like I was transformed into a new person.
I am still trying to set a quit date. I have been weaning off of these pain meds that I had to take for my back for about 6 weeks so I am wondering if it may not be a good idea to quit whilst doing that simutaneously.
Glad you are back to quitting for good. Yes it's sometimes bewildering why we go back to smoke after such a successful quit but the Nicodemon will always lurk if we don't keep are guard up. For me a year was the tipping point where I knew at that point I didn't need to smoke again and I was not going to slip. Anyway keep the faith and post if you are needing help. Many people here have or had depression and were able to make it through smoke free. It's an extra challenge but it's doable.
Find a new treadmill! One that makes you feel good and gets you fit!
Do find a quit date and work your way toward it with preparation and rewards!

You found a great place. The people are very supportive. Be sure to try the Quit Meter once you set your date. I set mine to launch when I start up my computer in the morning. I keep it on my screen all day and love the watching my non-smoking time (and money saved) ticking up throughout the day.
I am glad to be here. I have been smoking nearly a pack a day for almost 20 years and I have quit once for 6 months. Shame that I got back on this treadmill once again :(
I struggle with depression as it is so I am a bit worried about this flaring up when quitting. I don't have a wuit date right now but am hoping to have one by the end of the week.
