For those new to quitting

I am a long time smoker 40+ years and a short time quitter, just on day 5. I am using Chantix and I think it has been helpful but whether you are using Chantix or voodoo ;) this is going to boil down to you making a choice to either quit or to smoke. I think you have made the choice you just need to have faith in your ability to do it and you can do it. My experience so far with the Chantix is that it has moderated my craves. There are still craves but so far they have been mild to moderate. Sometimes they are persistant but that is when you have to pull out all those things you have worked on so far to get to this point. Remember you just have to do this one minute, one hour, one day at a time. If you have cut down from 2 packs to 6 smokes a day I would think what you are doing now is harder than quitting. You just need to turn loose and look forward to your new smoke free life. Don't be afraid of the 18th, celebrate it ! You can do this and you will get plenty of support here. Stay tuned in and post often we will all help you. Hear, Hear, PRB!!!! Excellent advice. BTW, skip the voodoo---I tried it as well and it doesn't work! Ky woman, I'm your neighbor here in (smoke-free) Tennessee! I also quit with Chantix after numerous failed attempts with other aids. Look at me now, baby! :) Once, after a failed quit, someone here posted that I needed to want to quit MORE than I wanted to smoke. I often think about that phrase. That and NOPE (Not One Puff Ever) have pulled me through. Chantix is WONDERFUL, But there's no magic to that little blue pill. The magic comes from within. You will notice when the dosage increases to 1 mg that you might have a bit of an upset tummy (make sure you eat) and a lot less desire to smoke with little actual craving...mostly just thoughts. Now the trick is...don't light up (out of habit). You CAN do it! I WAS a 3 pack a day smoker for 34 years. Savoir-faire, PRB---you must be a "repeat offender" like me! Those 5 days look AWESOME!!!!
