had a bad weekend and help

Hi Princess, I think the toughest thing about this quitting business is how long it takes to get rid of all your triggers and all your bad days. It is normal to think what you are thinking at this stage. We still entertain thoughts....but it is what you do about them that counts. 1) Accept that you have had a bad day or day(s). Remind yourself that you will still think about smoking sometimes, but at least you are not smoking and always thinking about quitting. Remember smoking is not an option. 2) Start fantasing about having one. That's real torture. The Nicodemon is creeping back into your life. Go immediately to the 'Avoiding Relapse' section of this site. No you definately do not want to go through this again. Look how far you have come. You have done so well - give yourself a huge pat on the back - where is your reward plan? It is frustrating, but do not worry, it gets a lot better as time goes on. Grit your teeth and stay with it. Hi Princess, Sounds like you need a "time out." Not intended as punishment - just time to get some R&R. No doubt, you'll miss your son. Your husband may realize he'll miss him too, but often times men think it's more appropriate to express all emotions (sadness, worry, etc.) as anger. You want to keep the peace, so you internalize the situation and your emotions- result, you think you need to reward and comfort yourself with a cigarette for being so good to everyone else, afterall you need some TLC, and no one is giving it to you. Or maybe you'll treat yourself to some special food. If this is making sense to you, then you know that you need to find another system of rewards. You know, the kind of reward that actually benefits you! Maybe you can join a bookclub - it's nice to talk to other people about anything other than smoking. Maybe you can go to Bed Bath & Beyond and buy some wonderful new FRESH smelling lotion to put on your hands and feet. For some reason the foot lotions and foot massage used to calm me down about 20 notches. In any case, congratulate yourself immensely for making it 71 days - that's awesome. Congratulate yourself for raising a son who is ready to move out (versus the "Failure to Launch-types"). And make a plan to do something nice for yourself right now, so you can come back and let us know what is was, so we can congratulate you again and store your idea into our future don't-get-discouraged-Quit plan. You need the positive reinforcement. Hang in there....
