Holiday Blues

Hello my friend, So glad to hear your doing better and you should be very proud of yourself for not smoking. My brother and sister-in-law still smoke and when they were over on X-mas, they went out a couple of times and smoked...I was so glad I didn't have to go stand on the front porch and smoke in the cold. I'm not missing that at all. As Josie said....you are not the outcast, they are. Look at yourself like this...strong and great people usually are the ones that take a chance to be different...and lead the other's down the path. Your just a strong and a great person.....hopefully they will eventually follow you...and if they don't...at least your on the correct path...one not filled with disease and smoke. HUGS!!!!!!! Cheermom, the rule for the first christmas adjustment for anything is to just make it through. You deserve flying colors. Now for the next year - and I don't mean for next dec. 25, but throughout 2007. Once you feel strong enough, consider the following(my thoughts only - I'm open to you filing them in the circular file, which is the trash [I had to actually ask that at my first real job]). Take control, for your sake and the next generation. Let them know now that the next family gathering will be smoking only outside (have it at your house) - with the idea that they will do it if they have to. Smoking is a culture, today, most people can go hours without a cigarette, and do - why abuse family? (we all do). Find other ways to step up to the plate. You quite in part for your children. Now, advocate for a smoke-free environment for your children. Of course, you can't beat your role-modeling. I'm proud of you. Well Girlfriend, you made it through smoke free, and that's what matters. So sorry you felt an outcast, but know that they are truly the outcasts. One of the reasons I quit was because I was at a party, and I was 1 of 3 that smoked, and I was embarrassed that I smoked. There were dozens of people there. I had to move from the table where we were playing board games, and go outside, then come back and hope that I didn't stink too badly! The odds are going up, or down, depending on how you look at it and there are many more non and reformed smokers than ever before. WE are the smart ones, believe that! Love to you, Denise PS, how's your broken ankle? Think of this, Kim - you SURVIVED Christmas. Good for you! It couldn't have been easy, I'm sure, but it only serves to make you stronger! Sorry to hear it was such a stressful time for you cheermom. You did really well not to smoke. You deserve to be the sweet-smelling non-smoker that you are. Crying is a much better answer to that situation than smoking. Now you can take up any conversations you like with you SSC family! Wow Cheermom, I thought my Christmas was stressful. Only my hubby smokes. It was hard not to. So many times I wanted to join him. Today I feel awsome that I have kept my quit. I feel for you, hun. Sometimes this is so easy and then other time, you can barely hang on. You are a wonderful lady. You are doing the best for yourself. It is sad when you see someone killing themselves. And there is nothing you can do about it. Stay strong my love. Keep up the good fight for the best reasons... Another 'survivor' ;) Glad you made it! I hope you have a detached garage so the smell doesn't come inside everytime the door is opened. Aren't you glad you don't stink like that anymore? And that your kids like the way you smell? With our heat out we were burning wood in the fire place (which my husband keeps bugging me about replacing with gas). I like the smell of the wood and the smoke curling from the chimney is so welcoming. Hubby pointed out that we quit smoking only to smell like smoke all winter and exposing ourselves to carbon monoxide! I guess that's a good argument, but I so love the wood burning...
