Great words Ima!!! Excellent thread! Only when we get the demon in front of us and actually see him for what he really is can we defeat him. In this forum, our words and thoughts get the demon (addiction) out in the open where he is not as strong and scary. Once we have him out in the open and vulnerable it is then that we can use the tools each of us give to one another and the ones we find deep inside of ourselves to fight the demon and bury him under our self confidence, determination and strength. ...and a little bath and body lotion doesn't hurt...LOL My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/7/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 34 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 757 Amount Saved: $187 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 0 Mins: 48 Seconds: 22

Thanks Penguin. I had a dream last night. In it I had a cigarette from somewhere. I sat on the steps with it but decided not to smoke it. I left it there in the cobwebs. As I walked away my brain yelled "What are you keeping that for??? Get rid of it!!!". So I went back, reaching through the cobwebs and crushed it in my hands. Weird. I saw in the news today a story re: a study with people with brain injury to a specific spot in the brain that may impact addiction, etc. I asked my husband to sneak up behind me and hit my head with a frying pan. He said he has already tried that but I am so hard headed that I didn't even flinch. I don't know what junkie thoughts are creeping into my being, but you once told me to drop the attitude. I'm sick of feeling down so I think I'll give that a try. I'll stay shotgun for a while, but I really thought you had the directions. I hope we didn't throw them out at that last rest stop. Maybe we're better for not having the directions. I question their effectiveness anyway so far. Let's just ask some people on the way and use the sun for general positioning. Who's to say what treasures we might find. I imagine they might have something to do with confidence, integrity, courage and freedom - all qualities that are personal gifts that we receive and/or strengthen as a result of this quitt'n journey. Reading some of the comments here have me thinking in the way of competence. Often times what is presented here are feelings of weakness and overall difficulty to adapt to the world around us. Especially in the face of a tiny roll of tobacco, we are an elephant to a mouse. We appear as though it is a wonder that we can function to get food in our mouths and have a roof over our head. I would argue that therein is the crust to the benefit of this forum. We are all in truth competent adults. We have done wonderful activities in our personal and professional lives. We are contributory, creative and competent. Through our struggles with nicotine we gravel, cry, scream and kick. Here is a place we can be raw. For only in doing so can we recognize the monster for what it is to us and therefore, our relationship to it and our dependence on it. The more raw we appear, the more honest we are being - the more power we take from the struggle. And whoever has the most power wins. Ima, I ask you again to push the blue Launch button for the ssc IM and we can chat. You have what it takes to do this. YOUR weapons and strengths are more than enough for this battle. You have the memory of the last 10.5 years of NOT following behind smokers wafting odors. If you were posting to you, what would you say then? I know you can quote me, can you quote YOU? If we do not acknowledge the mouse in the living room, it eventually consumes our thinking, becoming an elephant.
