help for panic attacks while driving

20 years ago 0 2 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hi Everyone, I am looking for help in managing panic attacks while driving a car. When I first began driving, I had the occasional anxious moment on the road. However 6 years ago I was hit by another car. No one was seriously injured except the cars! Since then I have been experiencing severe panic attacks. Typical symptoms consist of feeling unable to take a deep breath, unable to swallow, unable to relax my strangehold on the steering wheel. I also feel dizzy and weak and fear that I will faint and crash the car. Almost like starring in my very own horror movie! I have been afraid to drive on a highway for over 2 years. Now I am having trouble driving at night as well. From time to time, very recently, I have felt a panic attack coming on small roads in the daytime. So it is getting worse. I am so thankful for this site. I don't feel so all alone knowing that there are others out there who have been in the same boat (or car)!!! I would love to hear what suggestions you might have. Thanks! Carolyn :8o: :quest:
