Hi Hugs4U,

Thanks for participating in our Health Educators corner.

I hope that last part isn't actually true, I hope you feel that by being in and engaging in posts and discussions you do not have that feeling of being alone as much as you once did. Think of all the support you have given, all you have received.

Thanks for checking in, take care

Somes postive strides in health, some proposed living changes and unexpected reactions in relationships, along with my having to assert myself(contrary to my nature), has left me nauseous, headachy and fatigued.

I feel so dreadfully, alone, but I always have been

Hi.

Oh dear, I hope I didn't give anyone the impression that two old people were going to build these stairs in one day. We did get a good start though. Two years ago I cut the boards on my bandsaw mill out of local trees and stacked them to dry in the garage. Today we planed four and cut them to shape, and rounded the edges with a router. It took longer to set up than to do the actual work and then there is clean up. We will probably get part of them up tomorrow. Might even get some of the steps planed. What happens happens.  It would be faster with store bought wood but also very expensive since we want them sturdy. (over built) Anyway, I am having fun and Sunny will be able to park the car in the garage with all those boards out of the way. She is the one that has to clean the snow off it so I can see her point. Besides at this time of year the doors freeze shut if it rains or the snow melts during the day.
There are also two other things. Busy and a feeling of accomplishment help to keep anxiety away.

Whether you are a leader, follower or loaner, you have to find time for this side of you when you go into a role transition.
This I find allows me to ride out stressful situations. Some people do this by volunteering, some by having a place they can be alone. What ever you choose, be sure it allows you to be the type of person you are for at least part of the day. A pet can often fill this need.
My problem is that I am two types, a loaner by nature and a leader by necessity. It seems that in every job I have had I have been pushed into leading at some point. But basically I'm a loaner and it is my preference even though I am comfortable in the other roles (well mostly). My lack of interest in TV or sports shows I am not a follower yet I can let Sunny lead when it is her project and I am over my head. We make lovely flower beds. I'm good with a chinese excavator (hoe) and I drive the tractor.
Today we are going to build a set of stairs, this is going to mean covering every type of personality at some point.

Any change in a person’s environment, even a positive change, can result in the experience of stress.

A major behavioural change or embracing a new lifestyle, the death of a loved one, the loss of a job, or the end of a relationship is often considered to be a significant stressful event. But even positive changes such as marriage, promotion at work, birth of a child, going away to school, or moving to a new home can also cause stress.

Over the course of the next few weeks we will examine the stress response and how we can deal with such stresses.

What stressful life changes have you undergone recently and how did you manage the stress?
