I guess when we open up to other trusted people we realize that we're all alike. It takes some courage to begin in a small way, and this forum is a platform for me to begin to reach out

Thanks for the kind words everyone, it's nice to find a place that has this much helpful information.  Other than my counselor I haven't had many people to discuss what is going on with myself.

Vincenza I have started to work through the program and have started on my homework. :)

And yes Tigger was a nickname given to me growing up, not sure why I spelled the user name wrong though. :/

You couldn't be clearer and more concise!

Hi TJ,

I completely understand what you mean with being prescribed medications increasing your anxiety. I was suffering pretty badly from panic and anxiety but when my doctor wanted to prescribe me Prozac it made me feel even worse.

I never did end up taking the Prozac and I've been feeling better these last few weeks after working through the program, reading about the disorder, and seeing a therapist. Sometimes seeing going to see my therapist does feel like it increases my anxiety at first, but I do think it makes me feel better in the long run, especially now that we've been doing relaxation exercises.

I ended up in the ER at first too and it was scary for me. I never thought I'd be able to feel normal again but I do most of the time now. Reading books about coping with anxiety and panic really helped me.

Good luck

Hi TJ,

We're glad that you found us on this forum.  You'll find much support here as other members have gone through similar experiences and are ready to offer support and kind advice during tough times like these.

Have you had a chance to work through the programs offered on the main site?  In the ToolBox on the Left hand side, you can find information on panic attacks, tips on tools on working through negative thoughts, anxiety, etc... many have found it helpful to start here.

Let us know how you are doing and post with us often!

Hi my name is TJ and apologizes in advance that this may be a bit of a long winded introduction.

Over the past year I have had several small anxiety episodes which I made the mistake of passing off as me dealing with the normal stress in my life.  Last week I had my first somewhat severe panic attack which ended up with me going to the hospital.  I was given several dosages of a “sedative” to lower my anxiety which worked to some extent but not completely.  After they had ruled out any other health problems I was diagnosed with having a panic attack and was prescribed Xanax to take 3 times a day for the week or two following this episode.  At the time I was also provided with an appointment with a counsellor.  My counsellor seems great but the first two sessions have increased my Anxiety, this I believe is to simply discussing the fact that I have many “buried” emotions regarding personal issues which seem to be the underlying cause my anxiety.   It has been a mental battle to realize I cannot fix all of these probably at one time.

Currently I have just returned from another appointment with my doctor and was prescribed  and SSRI.  Just being prescribed another medication has added to my anxiety of becoming “pill dependent”.

I was suggested a site which linked to this one and decided that it can’t hurt to try the program.    I apologize for this sometimes incoherent introduction.

Thanks for your time.

TJ
