Ashley:  My favorite coping technique is distractions.  Distractions help take my mind away from the anxiety, these are anything you enjoy doing.  For me it's snowboarding, video games, movies, working out, work, making music with my friend....the list goes on.  The more I find, the less anxiety I tend to get.
 
Sweatbee:  Thanks!!  It's definitely helping me face the things I was missing, and the depression part is all but gone!  Thanks for your great support!

Lore:  Hey Miki!  No worries about taking breaks, I do them too.  Sometimes you gotta step out and do your thing, then you can come back and fill us in.  :-)  Therapies aren't going yet....still looking for a doc.  But I'm keeping pretty active in the anxiety community and helping other folks out, which is the best therapy until I get a new psych :-)
 
Gene:  Long time no see Doc #2!  I was really hesitant about meds at first, but now I agree that they are VERY helpful.  And I can definitely see what you mean about associating the old extreme anxiety to the new stuff.  I never thought of it that way before...thanks for that enlightenment!  As far as your medication, I think you just needed to find the right level before you could feel the benefits, which is why you had the last attack...just your body telling you it wasn't the right dose yet.  Hope things continue to progress for us both, but so far so good.

I know the feeling. I really believe in medication for nxiety. Congratulations on having the courage to try them. I feel that many fear the effects of medication and therefore avoid them. But they really do help. I know what you mean by day to day anxiety. You are over the worst but still plauged by daily anxiety. Personally I believe that this anxiety is much worsened by the association with extreme anxiety. You recall the suffering from it and thereby associate noraml anxiety with the extremes of it. I hope it gets better. I am still discovering this myself. I find that medication take the extremes off but doesn't take away all anxiety. Go and see your doctor regularly. My doc initally put me on a low dose which helped at first but was insufficient for me during high stress periods. I then had two PAs in two days and unfortunately this makes me feel like as if some time in the future the medication is not going to work. But really I haven't been able to experience a PA since I upped my dose. I have yet to fully comprehend this.

it's great to read that you are getting back on track too. Sorry I haven't been on again here, it's Miki btw. I used to be on Lexapro before too. I hope it works well for you. How are the therapies going?

Hey Everyone,
 
Sorry I haven't been on in awhile, I've been dealing with my anxiety and the depression that comes with it in my day to day, and I gotta say, I'm doing very well!  I began taking lexapro, which I can honestly say is a big part of the reason I started doing so well.  Took a little while to kick in, but once it did my anxiety is so much lower then before.  I'm actually able to go to parties and group gatherings without feeling social anxiety!  One of the coolest feelings in the world.
 
Otherwise, I'm in between therapists right now (looking for a new one), but really, I'm picking up my life where I left it and so much happier in my day to day.  Hope everyone is doing well, please feel free to let me know how you're doing in this post
