hi nikki,

my advice is to be with people that care about you. when all your emotions start going you dont know whether to scream, run, cry, laugh, or just drop dead. so being around loved ones help. im sorry your parents arent helping you. try to bring it up at a dinner conversation or something and show them some print outs on panic attacks. people that dont have them dont really understand how much they can affect your life and how serious they really are. just keep in mind that they will pass, nothing in life is forever! as far as insurance, definately try the local town/government aid. i dont know what state you live in but i have heard that they have programs for people without insurance. i dont condone having the govt pay for others services seeing as it comes out of my tax money but i agree 100% that this is what the money should be used for. poeple that actually NEED it. not the people that choose not to work and want everything for free. if this is what our govt used our tax money for i would support it 100% (i think you get what im saying:)) also i suggest keeping yourself as busy as possible. change you frame of mind from worrying to focusing on something else. anything else. even if its just focusing on the clouds in the sky. anything to get your mind off of it! i know its hard but keep telling yourself that things will get better, and that there are millions of others out there feeling the same way you are at that moment. and we are all stil here too:) if you ever need anyone to talk to feel free to post a message on here and i wll do my best to resond. i hope all works out for you. hang in there and things will get better!:)

Hi Nikki,   Try drinking a relaxing tea such as chamomile or valerian about an hour before bed. This should help to calm you down so that you can fall asleep and hopefully stay asleep.   It is understandable that having no medical insurance adds to your anxiety. Please check with government offices or even by calling a doctor in your area how you can access free health care. There must be options for low income individuals in your city. I hope you find a clinic in your area.   Keep working through the program and post as often as you need to. As you said, posting on this site also helps a lot with your anxiety.     Faryal, Health Educator

Great stuff!  Glad to hear you got to sleep well, and proud to hear after all that, that you are trying to do without the pill today!

Anxiety is definitely a tough beast to deal with, but it sounds like you're well on your way to understanding and overcoming!  Keep on keeping on.  And if you need a listening ear, or whenever you want to post, feel free to come on through!  There's always someone who can understand you here.

Hi Nikki

Welcome to the PC.

We have all been where you are!!! And I promise you it gets better. You can't see it right now but there is hope. I haven't fully recovered yet but panic doesn't cosume me anymore like how you describe it. It really gets allot better until you are coping quite well. My opinion about the med is give the zanax and whatever a try for a few weeks. But it is better to get onto anti-depressants. They will give you more help in the long run but they take a few weeks to become effective.

I see you can't really afford to see a doctor and buy prescription drugs. Sorry. So sorry about the pig at your former work as well.

What Dazed was saying is true. You cannot die from a PA. Also you will never go "mad" or insane. Panic attacks are totally different from serious mental diseases like shizophrenia.

Hi Nikki

First off you definately NOT die from a panic attack.... nor will you lose your mind or go crazy!!  Although your thoughts may scare you and you make think the worst is happening to you physically it is NOT going to harm you.  They are extremely uncomfortable and scary at times but be assured that you are OK...

I really feel for you Nikki.  Mine started many years ago and I've been where you are - as have most of us.  Everyone has said it already it will get better.  I and many of us here now lead very full and happy lives and yet we walked in your steps at one time.

I definately suggest seeking out a doctor one more time to ensure you've ruled out any underlying causes such as your thyroid etc.  and then once you've done that you can go forward with the program with the assurance that this is something you can learn to live with and accept... and you can!!

As for your sexual harassment being a trigger for all this - I think so.  Many people after a traumatic situation end up in this situation.  Often it's called post traumatic stress disorder and it's your body reacting to the situation.  Another reason why getting a proper diagnosis would be good as then you will know what would be best for you.

You're not alone Nikki and post whenever you can... Everyone here as so much insight and guidance to offer.

Take care

Hey Nikki,

I think the others have said it all. But I did want to come here and tell you it can get better. The program here has done so much for me! I am so much better! I do hope you give it a try.

I just wanted to say do not despair, there is recovery from this, there is hope! Welcome to the forums.
