Medication question....

Ha! us and our meds. My last med will be this thursday. Funnily enough I've been weening off of them since March 1st and aside from the slight anxiety of losing my familiar 'crutch' it has been fine with no significant changes. But for some reason ending them is a bit frightening because I begin to wonder will I slip backwards and are all these coping strategies I am employing and continuing to learn nothing without the meds? By monday will I be a walking catastophe....(session 2 I think, catastrophic thoughts). The good news is that my dreams are returning to normal and no longer am I a naked super hero landing in my classroom of grade 9's. Those dreams I will not miss! Anyhow please wish me luck and if anyone has any advice regarding the above I'd love to hear about it Thanks for listening. Michael

Michael.. Again, you've come and set things straight for me. Your thoughts are appreciated. I'm sure it's the change in dose that is creating the "havoc"..lol..and as you mentioned, I too have ALWAYS been overly sensitive to any type of medication (as well as all other capacities) and the doses always have to be scaled back.. since I was a kid.. As for the sunshine.. We had a beautiful sunny day today.. and it was warm so I was thrilled. Took my spirits right up and it's been a great day! Thanks again.

Some of us are very sensitive to meds and that includes, changing, upping them or even forgetting to take them. Last summer my Dr. suggested I take a small dosage of welbutrin to offset some of the side effects of my anxiety meds. The dosage was quite small but the racy stomach and anxious body was phenomenal. It was if I was starting meds for the first time/ I remember it lasting for at least a week... I think people like us are just sensitive in all capacities, physically, psychologicaly, spirtually, emotionally etal. well at least I am lol. Even the sunshine picks me up and revives me. All winter I used one of the UV Box lights and that really worked noticeably. Apparently alot of Canadians experience SAD (seasonal affective disorder)...Sorry to ramble, good luck and enjoy the sunshine MJM

Dazed, Always check with your doctor or pharmacist regarding side effects and dosages. It will take time for your body to adjust and having a baby does effect this process. Your body has been through many changes, so give it some time :) Josie, Health Educator

Hello Dazed Mommy, My answer might not ba as clear asothers since atm I only take some anxiolytics PRN but here goes. When I was firts diagnosed years ago (over a decade ago) I was put on different medications. For me anytime they changed my meds was an adjustment, My body had to get used to the new meds. For a little while I would feel bad and have more side effects. Upping the doses pretty much had the same effects. I felt weird and not well, on egde and all that. More side effects for a bit. Then it would stabilize. Even upping my anxiety pills has a weird effect. For the fort few days I feel a bit sluggish and les sharp. Anyway, that is my experience with upping, changing or replacing meds. If you ever decide you want my take on weening from meds, feel free to ask! Since I have been diagnosed I have had plenty of time to get on and get off meds lol! In my experience tho, everyone reacts to meds in their own unique way, so the best thing to do is to discuss all this very closely with your doctor. He is the best persone to help you with this :) Oh and for questions, the pharmacist is often a underutilized treasure of information! Anyway, sorry for rambling and have a nice day :) -Diva

Hi Everyone... As I've mentioned before I had been free of symptoms for many years but since my last baby it's been a bit of a battle. After much debate I have agreed to try upping my medication (as I was down to a VERY low dose in hopes of weaning ...eventually lol) as per my doctors advice. I take Paxil... and am finding my anxiety a bit worse and I'm sweating a lot etc. If I remember correctly this is how I felt when I first started on the meds and it takes weeks to even itself out. Is that the same when you change your dose?? Your body needs time to adjust?? It's frustrating me a bit as I just want my "self" back.. Just thought I would ask... Thanks for listening.
