Hi Shannon,
Sorry to hear of your visit to the doctor. I was unaware of a link between low potassium and panic attacks but if you heart pounds fast, well you would feel panicky I guess.
As far as I know low potassium levels do sometimes cause high heart rates. Apart from potassium, the heart healthy minerals appear to be calcium and magnesium. Low potassium levels could also sometimes be caused by some types of hypertension medication (dieuretics especially in high doses) and if you had vomitted at the hospital and then done the blood test, then it could also show up with low potassium levels. I have read quite a lot since I sometimes get sinus tachycardia . I think in relation to potassium, it is quite easy to get an adequate level through foods such as orange juice and bananas. Now having said this I don't know how low your levels are and you should go and see your doctor and ask for his advice. :) :)
Hope this helps.
