Thanks for posting everyone. Your postings always help me feel better. Rooster, when it comes back up and burns....that happens to alot of people. Its like the food or liquid comes back up (as if you are going to throw up) but then it goes right back down and burnsss like crazy. I know the feeling and its awfulllllll. Dont worry though, its normal. I hope you feel better!

Hey Angel, Yeah I get a similar kind of thing with my throat. My throat feels really tight and I tend to gulp heaps. For me its probably one of the most annoying symptoms of anxiety and the more I focus on it the worse it gets. It seems to get alot better though if I try and bring my attention to something else completely different (than my throat) for a couple of minutes - e.g. looking at everything around me - like if Im walking I'll try and think about the cars driving past, the wind in my face, the fact that my feet are walking on the ground and all sorts of things. It helps my anxiety and throat problems go down. Seeya Kieran

This post is for Rooster, Rooster everything you've described is sounds like GERD/acid reflux. This is not a serious condition but is very real. I had GERD so bad that my esophgus was enflamed with some erosion. Eating becomes painful. Anxiety often makes it worst. There are medications which help it. i had an endoscopy where a thin tube is put down your throat to examine things. psychologically that was helfpul because i saw that I had no blockage, just esophaugs erosion. managing the anxiety also help keeps the GERD from coming back. But it definetly takes meds to clear up the GERD, because the meds will reduce your stomach acid and gives the esophaugs a chance to naturally repair itself. Definetly see your doctor about this. For me after the GERD went away i still had this phobia about eating. it still took me quite some time to get over it, but with time it got better. junior

Wow ! I am going through the exact same thing! I get that exact feeling. I too have been living off of cereal, milkshakes and soups. So, how do we get over this?

When I swallow anything (including water!)I mostly get a terrible feeling that it has gone down the wrong way and it seems to come back up into my throat and burns. It is so bad that it is now becoming a phobia! I agonise over every swallow, petrified that I'll get that awful feeling and have a panic attack. The last 12 months I have lived on cereal, muffins and milk. It really scares me.

Yes, I get this feeling, too. From what I understand, its completely harmless. It's one of those feelings that go away if you don't pay attention to it. Apparently, it something to do with the muscles in your throat being tense. On a similar note, I often get this feeling when I eat, or especially, drink that it has 'gone down the wrong tube'. Its very uncomfortable and worries me. I've never had it so often. Does anyone know what this is?

I everyone. I need to ask you if you feel the same thing too. My throat feels really really tight. This makes it hard for me to swallow. I keep feeling my neck (throat area) to make sure everything is ok. I do not have a sore throat or anything. But i keep fearing my glands will swell and block my breathing. I keep trying to clear my throat cause when i talk it bothers me. I hate this...i'm really sick and tired of this. Do u think this is part of my anxiety? sorry, i'm just having a really bad day.......i hate myself like this.
