Hi tom,

Welcome to the forum.  You've found a very safe and supportive group of people that you can rely on if you need help or advice.  Take some time to look through the site for more information and ways to deal with difficulties and stick to your goals.

What have you found most difficult in the past?  How can we best help you?

Hi Tom,

Welcome.   There are some great tools on this site to help you deal with your drinking.   I also attend AA and find it to be helpful.   I too like and use the 24 Hour a Day book which Charmaine recommended.   It has a different meditation for each day, and I read it each morning.

Stopping drinking is really hard work, but it is doable, and so worthwhile.

Hi Tom,

Welcome and we all know how you feel. Another daily book that is great is "Twenty-Four Hours a day" by Hazelden.
I read it everyday for inspiration and hope.
This site really helps too, especially if you can't get to a meeting which I hope to get to myself.
Hope this helps.

Tom,
Have you ever read the book called Alcoholics Anonymous? If not you may want to read it, just to see if you can identify with the disease concept. About 5 years ago when I landed in AA, I was given this book. When I read this: 3 things were highlighted to me:

1) The obsession of the mind that forces us to keep going back to booze 2) Once we succumb to the desire and take a drink then the phenomenon of drinking kicks in and we drink more than what we planned for and 3) when we are not drinking we are restless irritable discontent, also filled with guilt, remorse and depressed.
