pinky,
It seems like you have the right direction in being able to discipline yourself on days that you work - we just need to find out what will keep that same mentality when you are off.  Further, reading that you are also disciplined to keep yourself ("eat right, no smoking, look put-together") means that you have all the components - just need to align them :)

When you are alone you need to find a distraction - exercise, call a friend, walk the dog, watch a movie (upbeat - no love stories), read a book - ANYTHING that allows you to feel good, and make you want to better yourself by not "slipping".

Being a nurse you are strong in your resolve - I think you just need to hear it from deep inside yourself - "you are strong, pinky" - believe in yourself, trust yourself, and enjoy feeling fresh :)

And always remember - you have friends here .......

So nice to know that there r others here that understand....my worst time is when i am alone.  That is when I want to just be lost in being drunk and hide from the world...not sure why.  Have done good today since i work tonight...it is the days off that r more of a challenge.  I am going to read some other posts here as well and see if i can find some strength there.

Wow Pinky, I could have written that. I too take care of me, exercise, eat right, seem to have it all etc. but secretly I am killing myself drinking alone till I just pass out. Not remember what I did, who I spoke to or emailed, waking up feeling lousy. I have not had a drink since Sunday and I fell great. It is hard but keep posting and reading others stories and you will find the strength and determination to keep going.

Hi Pinky,

Welcome to the group.  It took strength to come and post here.  Remember this is an addiction you are fighting, it is not just about strength; it is about learning, challenging yourself , support and much more.  Many of the tools you need are right here on this site.  Read through the program and support group.  Post often and lean on us for support.

How do you want to address this program?  What do you want?

pinky - I posted this and wanted to be sure you saw it too...

Hey there segredograca and pinky;
Great choice to make this step - I did about 10 days ago and have found it to be helpful, encouraging, and effective - I hope you both will too.
Read and post often and you will find support and guidance that will allow you to get through the tough times - and cherish the good times. There's nothing like reading how someone is having a tough time on Day 6, only to find other members pushing forward until that person wakes up on Day 7 successful :)
It's a great feeling and (at least I do) feel it gets me through the day as I look forward being able to post - "I'm onto another day" .....
Sorry to ramble - it happens :)
Start a blog too - I'm sorry I waited a week before I did.
Great Luck and Congratulations for signing up and taking that first step !!!

Hi.
I am here looking for support.  Have been struggling for a while now and have had a few great months only to experience a big set back...*sigh*
I am a nurse and have huge issues about going to any kind of meetings thinking that I may loose the trust of my co workers and patients.  I am finding it a very difficult problem as I am starting to realize that I have a problem but am terrified to "let it out".  I know that it should not matter but the reality is that I really think it does!
It is so funny because I put on such a great show, eat right, no smoking, look put together ect but once I get home everything falls apart!
I am upset with myself for not being strong enough to manage this...or control it.
Just curious if anyone else has experienced anything like this and how you are dealing with it.
Thanks to anyone that responds.
