Hi Kaitie,
"great to receive encouragement from someone with so many quit smoking hours up their sleeve! Hopefully it will be me one day!" Stay on that path to freedom and it WILL  be you one day.  Just keep those thoughts you listed in mind at all times.
Since you started on the 1st, it's going to be easy to keep track of how many days you have been smoke free. Day 5 is almost over now.
Keep staying strong and watch out for those triggers.

Hi Saf,
Congratulations to you too on starting your 21019 quit journey!   "make sure you take it off when you sleep otherwise you will some imaginative dreams." Well that's putting it nicely. I'd say they can be VERY VIVID indeed.  I took them off at night too because of that. "only thing I do not like about patches is you get sore patch where you wore the patch after you remove it". True, it does do this to some people but not all people. Depends on how your body reacts to the adhesive and the nicotine. Kind of like some people are allergic to nickel or copper and others are not. "Ive set my target to buy XRP with all the money I save". It sure will add up quickly, cigarettes are expensive aren't they?
Stay strong Saf and watch out for all those triggers.

Hi Edward1903,
Congratulations on your quit attempt!  "Do nicotine patches actually make a difference?" For me they sure did. They took care of the physical need and let me concentrate on the mental part, which seems to be the hardest part of the quit for most people. "And what other tips would you guys give for these cravings?" Drink plenty of fluids, preferably water, and NO alcohol for quite awhile until you get your quit under control. Keep yourself busy so you don't think about not smoking. You are starting a new smoke free lifestyle, so you need to change the "normal" routine you had when smoking. When you get an urge, try chewing on an ice cube, or a carrot or whatever works for you. The healthier the better for you. I wasn't much of an ice cube or carrot guy, I carried a pocket full of lifesaver mints. It worked for me. Breathing exercises help too believe it or not. Another thing that helps is to get on here and post a message. Vent if you have to, just keep it clean.  By the time you are done posting, the urge should be gone, or at least more manageable. We just have to re-train our brain to be able to live without that nasty drug called nicotine, and it takes some time to adjust.
You might want to go through the "my program" at the top of the page too. It has some hints and information that might help you on your quit journey. Another thing you might want to do is read through these forums. There is a lot of good information and hints and tips in here that has helped other users "kick the habit".
"I'm still struggling with cravings even though I haven't given into them yet."  Well you are not alone. Almost everyone struggles with them at the start of their quit. You CAN be stronger than the craving if you really want to quit.
Stay strong Edward1903, watch out for the triggers and keep us updated with your journey would you?

Hey welcome to the quit year of 2019. I hope we both do it successfully.
When I am at home I do not wear a patch as no one smokes around me and I do not get worked up
However during the week I did wear a patch when I was at work. And yes it works only thing I don not like about patches is you get sore patch where you wore the patch after you remove it and please make sure you take it off when you sleep otherwise you will some imaginative dreams. Ive set my target to buy XRP with all the money I save so try and do the same.

Hi everyone how's it going?

Sorry to bother you guys but I've got a few questions if that's alright as this is my first serious attempt into stopping smoking!

I've stopped smoking too this year but have been doing it cold turkey and have had multiple cravings. Do nicotine patches actually make a difference? And what other tips would you guys give for these cravings?

This is the most serious attempt I've made into stopping smoking. I'm also doing "dry january" which should make it slightly easier but I'm still struggling with cravings even though I haven't given into them yet.

 Cheers,
Edward

Hi Kaitie,
"it actually felt quite exciting to make such a meaningful New Year's resolution" Exciting....AND scary, not knowing if you can do it or not. "I managed to quit for a few months, but then tried to be a "social smoker. Needless to say, it didn't work"" Good to hear that you learned there is no such thing as "just one". One less trigger to deal with. You have some great thoughts listed to keep in your head, not only for the first week, but actually for the rest of your life.
"People talk about quitting as being one of their greatest life achievements. This could be one of mine too!"  It sure can, and once you accomplish this, the whole world opens up in a different view, and you feel like you can do ANYTHING that you put your mind too. Being able to quit smoking empowers you sooo much. Nicotine sure is a nasty drug. Stay on that path to freedom Kaitie and keep us updated on your progress.
Stay strong.
