IS TODAY THE TWO-WEEK MARK??!! I'm seeing a lot of similarities in our approaches to quitting, and a lot of attitude similarities. I'm enjoying reading on with this, so post post post!!

Hey gang,

I'm hanging tough! Shortly we'll be concluding day 12, and then I can cross the two week goal off my list and replace with a 30 day.

Cigarette image currently totaling about 480 cigarettes I would've smoked in the last 12 days. My lord is that crazy to think about. Having a few moments already where I see someone smoking or think about my old habit and simply wonder what the hell I was doing for so long...

Still getting the occasional craving but I'm not dwelling on any of them. They'll come, they'll pass. Feeling better and stronger ever day.

Need to stay very careful though. Not gonna let some idiot night out or moment of weakness blow this for me. Not this time.

See ya soon y'all.

Hi QFG,
Are you still with us? You're on day 11 now if my math is right. DOUBLE DIGITS!!
I also like that mental image you have. Think about how high that ash tray would be, overflowing with butts if you still smoked.
Hang in there and stay strong, you're doing great!

Awesome QFG! Im so happy for you. It sounds like you are doing it easier than you expected...thats great! Your subconscious bringing up thoughts of cigs at routine times is normal enough...you sound strong enough to shake them off. It sounds like whats important to you now is steering clear of triggers....like going for that beer. Congrats for making the right call there and prob best to hold off on the drink til you know youre strong enough. For me drinking doesnt happen without smoking. As for me l quit again (two times...lol) and failed two times Withdrawals are getting the better of me. I have another quit planned tomorrow. Fingers, toes, everything crossed.
Thanks for inspiring me by testing out week 1 for me....you didnt die  And actually you sound very positive. WTG!!

End of day 8. We'll be in the double digits soon ;)

Actually been having a lot of those momentary urges yesterday and today. Had a small professional win yesterday evening and wanted to go to the bar and have a beer, but it felt like that sort of mood and attitude went well with smoking, so I just stayed in.

Several times today as well, but they're just momentary urges. The idea just quickly runs through my head like 'I should be smoking right now,' or 'Where is my cigarette,' when I hop in the car for example, or hop out of the car, or walk the dog, or really do just about anything, it comes at very odd times.

But I've had this funny and fairly disgusting mental image that's been helping. Since especially the last few months I was smoking almost constantly, about 40 a day, even 7 full days later that is 280 cigarettes! So, when the idea of having one pops into my head, I chuckle thinking about the massive pile that 280 (another day so now 320) cigarettes looks like. Gross! And that's really what you pick back up. Plus I'd be out the $120 or so I would've spent in the last week, and ain't nobody got money like that.

Thanks gang.

Congrats QFG!!

One week is BIG early!!

Try and put the 35 days to the back of your mind and concentrate on today. Keep doing what you are doing and you will blow that milestone away in no time - (well, in 29 days actually).

Hey guys,

  I got 6d, 17h, and 32m and 6s, but who's counting?!

Shocking really to be coming up on a week. And Sparrow, I felt EXACTLY the same way! Maybe more so even, I was terrified I'd never get off the roller coaster of quitting for two to five days and then picking up again. As someone else put it on here, something like: being a smoker who is quitting sucks, being a smoker who quit is awesome. You can get through those few days if you've made a commitment to do it, and, surprisingly, they might not be as bad as you thought.

Really, reading through all these threads was especially encouraging to see people with the same starting point actually getting it done. What's possible for one is possible for me. That night before actually quitting a week ago I was hyper-emotional. Setting out to try again, half heartedly believing I could do it, terrified that I'd fail (and always be a failure, of course).

Where are you at Sparrow? If you're only quitting for just a day or two I would maybe regroup and tally up all the pros and cons and get your head right before giving it a go. I found that I couldn't just make the decision the night before to quit tomorrow but it required a mental prep and a run up to actually trying again. Lots of my quits lasted about twenty minutes, lol.

In any case, hang tough everyone and I appreciate the support as we move along here. Granted 35 is my former record 7 is big and feels very encouraging. I guess tomorrow morning I can toss my index card that reads "Quit smoking for 7 days" and make a new one that reads "Quit smoking for 14 days."

Best,

  QFG
