smoking while driving

I have had the same problem! I have been chewing mint flavored gum to and from work. I also got a book on CD (I'm old school) from the library to listen to and take my mind off the fact I'm driving a car and not smoking.

Hi BeANanTY,
WizardRae had a good suggestion with the mints or candy. You can also try raisins, peanuts, whatever you like that would work. Substitute anything for a cigarette. Try driving a different route, change your routine. You say you can go all day without a smoke at work. Do you keep them in your car or in your pocket? I know this may sound silly or stupid, but just don't keep them in your car or your pocket. If they are out of reach you can't smoke them.
Being a quitter myself, I can assure you that if you smoke, non-smokers can smell it on you.

I have the same problem with smoking in the car. It's been 3 weeks for me since I quit and I found substituting my craving with a mint or piece of sugar free candy helps. I am just trying to train my brain to think differently about my day to day activities. I also do not think it's weird your mom doesn't know, I haven't told anyone at my job I smoke since I started working there because of fear of judgement. Hang in there I am as well!

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

7 years ago 0 1 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hi everyone,

I have smoked for over ten years, since high school. Basically I have had enough. I am curious though, I can go all day at work (in an office) without going outside or a smoke, but the minute I get in my car, I find it impossible to not light up. If I didn't have to drive around so much, I feel like I could distract myself with enough things to quit. But it's that damn car! It's like a secure little cocoon to sit in and smoke, no one can see me, no one can smell me, I don't have to feel guilty or ashamed. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions for getting over the 'smoking in the car' thing?

One more thing, I have smoked for this long and my mom still doesn't know (I am 31 now). Is that weird?
