My son is 28 and swears to me he's never ever smoked tobacco ever. (Notice how he worded that.)
My younger son, though, is 24 and back when he was 18, I caught him with a cigarette. I snatched it from him and said, "Fine, if you're going to smoke, I'm going to start up again" and his eyes got wide and he started to tear up, he took that cigarette back from me and crushed it, saying, I won't smoke, Mom, I promise, just please don't start smoking again!"
As far as I know he didn't smoke again. I, of course, never intended to.
My son and I were talking the other day and he asked me how long it's been since I quit smoking. I had to actually think about it and then realized that the last time I smoked was December 31st, 2006, so that means my 10th anniversary was almost a month ago and I didn't even realize it!!
I remember when every hour was a milestone.
I remember when every day was a milestone.
I remember when every week was a milestone.
I remember when every month was a milestone.
I never thought I would get to a place where years would no longer be milestones for me!!
Ten years ago, this site was hoppin' busy, posts flying back and forth, day and night. The people here - and the posts of wisdom, some I'm glad to see are still here - they literally saved my life. My deepest thanks to the "old-timers" who were there for me, whether they knew it or not.
