i am trying to quit smoking.

hey guys, thanks for the encouragement. i will check into the program that you mentioned as there is always something that can be learned and implemented in this situation and new tools are always useful. it isn't an easy road and there is always temptation about. yeah i also agree that whatever works is the best for a person. new ways and new roads to travel have always been a good choice for change in my world. as far as my reward its going to be what i spend my cigarette money for at the end of my 1st year. i have close to $600.00 in  a coffee can where i throw $6.00 a day in which is what i use to spend on a pack of smokes per day. maybe some more electronic test equipment as i troubleshoot and repair antique 1930s / 1940s / 1950s farm and table radios so can always use the money for that habit. or i can always pay medical bills when i get my hip replaced which should be getting down soon i hope.

anyhow good days to all.

Hey Poorguy!!!

It's been a while since I checked in here at the SSC.  I read this whole thread and wanted to congratulate you on your perseverance over the last few months!  It looks like you are on the right path and since you have proven that you aren't going to quit quitting, I have faith that you WILL succeed!  I would like to recommend that you go through the Program that is offered here at the SSC, if you haven't already done so.  Most new quitters go through the Program at the beginning of their quits to read about how to go through the quitting process.  I know it sure helped me and many of my quit buddies here!  Check out the "My Program" pull down menu at the top of the page to peruse!  Although you have been on your journey for some time, there may still be some information of value for you.

Another thing that helped a lot of my quit buddies back in the day was reading and learning from others here on the Forums. Posting and offering support to others was also something that helped me early on as it helped to distract me from smoking!  I'm glad to see that you are posting often!

Like Timbo said, do reward yourself often!  Especially when reaching different milestones like 1 week, 1 month, etc!  You are doing something that takes a lot of energy and effort, both mentally and physically!  Rewards are needed and in my opinion... Required!!!  It's part of the Program, too!   Treat yourself well!  You deserve it!

      Keep the quit, buddy!

Hey Poorguy,
It's great to hear that you're still not smoking.  Fruits & veggies are better than candy like you said, but whatever works is what's important when you're starting the quit. You should be into blah week now I think, if I'm counting the weeks right. Weeks, how's that sound to you for not smoking? I hope you're proud of your accomplishments and are rewarding yourself.
Stay strong buddy...

hey all just thought i would check in and let everyone know that i am still on the wagon since my failure. hope all is going well for everyone. nothing exciting going on here just being dull and boring which is good for me. eating lots of veggies and apples and oranges. can't and won't do the candy never have been a candy eater. bad for the teeth anyway.  cigarettes were bad for my lungs but that didn't stop me. i guess the reason for that was no pain and stupidity. well life goes on.

hope that all of you who have a special somebody has gotten them a valentines gift as that is upon us again so to all have a HAPPY VALENTINES DAY.

yeah i know i screwed up, hell haven't drank in a long time just decided to and this is what can happen to anyone. i did have an ok start and seemed to be doing ok until now but yes i am going to continue where i was before i screwed up. drinking is not a problem here i just did it and made a very poor decision. it can happen to anyone. thanks for the support and the not chewing me out as i am disappointed in myself enough but  i will get over that as i prove to myself that i can pickup where i was before my human side took charge and made a bad choice. thanks

Hi Poorguy,
Well back to day one of hell week. I hope you did learn your lesson. I'm also glad to hear that you're not going to give up trying.
Drinking is a big trigger for a lot of folks. You had a pretty good quit going too, so I think you can do this if you can avoid the alcohol, or at least, drink in moderation and avoid the situations where it's easy to have a smoke.
Stay strong my friend...

hello all,

well seems as though i did a very stupid thing yesterday and went out drinking with some friends and wound up getting really really drunk as i have not drank in quite a long time. as happens when we drink and i don't care who you are we become 30 ft tall and seem to think we are bullet proof and in my case just don't give a *#%*@$#. well not giving a *#%*@$# i went ahead and smoked maybe a half dozen cigarettes. yes i am aware a very bad choice on my poor judgement and no good excuse so here i am starting back on the wagon of no smoking. oh well at least i found my trigger as to why i have always started smoking again. so no more drinking for me and i am not going to beat myself up because i slipped. i know that all of us have had some slippage. no excuses, just disappointed in myself because i did think about what i was going to do before i did it and disappointed in the fact that i let myself down. must move ahead and continue to not smoke anymore. thats all that i can do. have a good nonsmoking day.

hey all, yeah it is a big thing to say i quit smoking. i stopped sep 29 2014 but slipped a few times but this year i have been good and not slipping. as far as not being able to smoke in buildings  when i did smoke was no big deal as i never smoked in my house. not that it matters anymore because that was one way i used to cut back by not going out to get my pack of cigs out of my truck. i have just made a point to my kids that if you come over you can't smoke on my property. yeah that went over well, haven't seen them since. however they will get over it or need something and come back. all is well getting closer to getting in the hospital for my new hip so that will take my mind off of smoking and yes i do miss it due to too much idle time as i am not able to work right now. life without smoking is good. food that i thought tasted good now really sucks so it is home cooking all the time now.

Hey poorguy,

Checking that "nonsmoker" box is no small thing. For at least a year, I also verbally announced my new nonsmoking status to every Dr. I saw...and to the dentist, too.
