New here and have set my quit date for Saturday

Just want to encourage you to stick with it.  I spent many hours on here when I was quitting. But it has been so worth it.  I feel so much better now and I know that you can do it if you want.  Find something simple to occupy your hands, like a straw, a yo-yo, a paperclip,  Make your first reward something to remind you how hard you have worked and how you have succeeded. I smoked for almost 40 years and I have been clean almost 10 years now.  I know that it is possible if you want it bad enough.

Good job on quitting.  I just quit last week as well and it certainly hasnt been easy but this program is helping me understand the addiction.  There seems to be a million things that remind me of smoking and my girlfriend still smokes which is making the process that much more difficult.  Today is day 10 though and I have yet to slip, lets hope this continues.

When quitting, setting a date on quitting isn't a very for sure thing. Some people can quit on dates they set but most just end up with a bunch of dates they said they were going to quit on. The best way to ensure you to quit is quit right now or some other time but when you really feel like quitting. Not trying to down you for having a quit date but it isn't very productive and reliable.

Hi Penny,
Working on it gave you some pointers. The best thing I can say is read read read in the forums and learn as much as you can about what to expect on your journey. You need to be prepared for what lies ahead. You don't want any surprises to pop up and not know how to deal with it other than having a cigarette.
I wish you the best. You CAN do this if you really want it.

Hello Penny and Steve224. Welcome to the boards and congratulations to both of you on your decision to quit.

My main suggestion are to work through all of the steps in "My Program" (one of the tabs at the top of this page). Reading and posting here is good, especially in those first days and weeks. It keeps you occupied and you will learn from the old posts. if you are having some particular difficulty with your quit process, odds are, there will be an old thread on that topic. And remember to take every thing a day at a time, an hour at a time, and even a minute at a time if you have to. Don't worry about "never smoking again." Just focus on getting through now without a smoke.

Another resource that helped me was this e-book.  http://whyquit.com/ffn/index.html  This booked helped me to understand the addicion process a lot better. That knowledge gave me the power to more rationally manage my cravings and emotional states during the quit process. (That is not something I had been able to do in the past.)

Well, that's all I've got for now. Keep us posted on your progress, and ask for help if you need it. Good luck on your journey.

I just wanted to pop in and say hello to all of you.  I am new on this site and have set my quit date for Saturday.  I am working through the program now and I am hopeful that I will not only quit but stay that way forever more.  Any helpful hints are much appreciated.
