Quit yesterday and plan to repeat what I did last time 3+ months cold turkey

Hi ihatecarcinogens,

I really don't know how to answer your tapering question. I think it goes without saying (but I'll say it anyway) that you do NOT want to end up permanently vaping. There are carcinogens and health risks that have now been documented on these things. (BTW, one of the incentives for me to get off the lozenges, as opposed to just maintaining as a non-smoking nicotine addict, was an article that I read about nicotine lozenges being associated with high levels of carcinogens in the system. )

Is there a recommended way to taper off from the vaping? I know that other nicotine replacements (gum, lozenzes, patches, etc.) usually have a tapering schedule to follow. I also know that everyone is different, Some follow the schedule, some go cold turkey, and some follow their own schedule. I think one of the guides, if you're trying to taper a little faster, is how you are feeling. If you use a little less or delay uses and it doesn't cause any anxiety or desire to smoke, you're probably OK. But if you get hit with a strong urge, it would be wise to get some nicotine into your system before you break down and get a real cigarette.

I think your documentation of what you are doing and your reactions to it is also a good thing. Reviewing your notes on how much you have vaped and your response will give you some indication of whether you are ready for additional reductions.

And another source of information may be your doctor.

In the meantime, glad to hear that you are managing well at this time.

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

Wow. I dont know why It wouldnt let me type in the test box to post, so I posted a blank message and it works now. Weird.

But its day 5 now! Everythings perfect. Today is the only day I had an actual craving for a cigarette. It was when I was learning and having really creative thoughts about what I was learning. Normally I would chain smoke while taking online classes for school while I listen to lectures. I had not been in school or studied anything online in years. Funny how those triggers still stick around till you confront them.

My nicotine consumption is going along the path I assumed. The first day I smoked three 48mg tank fulls of nicotine fluid. Same the next 2 days. After that I got over the hump and don't really feel the need to smoke that much nicotine. I don't even think about my nicotine addiction for an hour or so after waking up. Thats a good thing since I'd normally hop out of bed and drag myself to the garage for a smoke.

Today I smoked only two tanks.  Not my choice or trying to taper down my consumption. Thats just how it goes. I'm noticing as the hours pass every new day i'm not vaporizing to support my habit or because I'm an addict. 60% of the time that I use it now is because I'm trying to avoid irritability or I am taking a few puffs as a stimulant to replace caffeine (that gives me anxiety) while I'm studying. Nicotine is a fantastic instant focusing tool while trying to concentrate on my video lectures.

So its day 5 and I've only had one craving for a real cigarette. The craving was not caused by withdrawal because I had the craving after taking a few puffs of vapor. It was trigger induced anyways. I still don't have any withdrawal if I go 6 hours without a cigarette as I did earlier today. Switching from tobacco to vapor pen is proving to me its greatness again (:

Does anybody think I should try and stretch my length of time not using the vapor pen? Maybe get familiar with regularly going 1 hour without using it, than in a week try 1.5 or 2 hours without it than try 3, 4 or 5+ hours without? I was planing on going cold turkey after 2 months and still carrying the pen with me in case of relapse so I don't do the dreadful thing of going back to tobacco.

I've even managed to avoid tobacco smoke almost completely these whole 4-5 days. I only get exposed to it in the car if the driver or another passenger is smoking. I just put my window down its not a big deal to me. Smells horrible :/ I'm also starting a 4k calorie diet + 36 grams protein per meal diet. With lots of healthy foods no junk! Water only. I need to regain 25 pounds so I can hit 130 pounds again. I'm deathly slim at 102 right now.

Hello ihatecarcinogens,

Congratulations on your decision to quit again. It sounds like you are familiar with the issues surrounding the nicotine vapor, so I will not make my usual warning statements. It also sounds like this method has worked for you in the past, so may as well use it again. My quit was kind of self-designed and broke the rules, too. But I knew that was what would work for me. And you know what works for you.

The blue toes thing sounds scary. From what I've read, some people actually lose fingers and toes due to a circulation condition that is triggered by smoking. You definitely have a good reason to quit with that.

Let us know how everything goes.

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

9 years ago 0 8 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
So I got into vapor pens the last time I tried to quit. I realized that nicotine is not the problem in tobacco addiction. I do not crave the vapor pen. I don't obsess over smoking it like I would a cigarette when I'm somewhere I can't smoke (or vape). I regularly vape a full 2mL tank of 24mg per mL fluid for 48mg of nicotine a day meanwhile thats twice as much nicotine as I would be getting from tobacco cigarettes. I vape this much not because I smoke it constantly, but because I take rather large hits from the vape pen.

So using the logic that nicotine is the highly addictive substance in tobacco is false in my opinion. If I was wrong, than by me doubling my nicotine intake for 30-60 days with a vapor pen  than going cold turkey my withdrawal should be doubled if not more in intensity. This is not what happens. Once I smoke the vapor pen long enough to rid myself of most smoking habits or triggers I quit cold turkey. No withdrawal, no headaches, no irritability.
I have to quit. I'm already very underweight when I'm not smoking. I'm about 124 pounds when I quit smoking for a month or two. When I relapse back to tobacco for 3 weeks I'm down to 102 pounds. If I keep on smoking and one day get cancer because of it, starting treatment at 100 pounds will probably kill me from more serious weight loss. My skinny arms are pale white and grey. My toes have a purple hue to them again since I started smoking again 2 months ago. My hairs falling out more and my face is caked in oil that will go away in a few days once I avoid smoke.

So starting yesterday at about 4PM I quit smoking tobacco. I bought a new vapor pen and fluid. I plan to smoke upwards of 40mg per day thats about 2mL maybe 3mL per day. Twice the amount of nicotine I'd be getting from tobacco. I have had my nicotine juice tested for heavy metal and what its made up of and its clean. I'll keep at this for about a month or two. This 1-2 month wait for some reason really helps when I go cold turkey. I just don't withdrawal at all once I vape large amounts of nicotine from a PG/VG solution. Last time I did this I went 3 months cold turkey after vaporizing 80mg of nicotine per day out of a 50/50 blend of PG/VG. That was by far the easiest cold turkey I ever had. I relapsed due to panic attacks.
