I am celebrating day 27 of no smoking. I can't get here much, I'm working two jobs and the holidays, but I am not smoking. Good thing, too, it's incredibly cold and windy outside; glad I don't go out there any more. Thank you for asking.

Thank you so much for all the positive responses and encouragement. I am half-way through day 9, and although there have been some tough spots through the days I am happy to report not one puff taken. I had flu for the last couple of days, complicated by detoxing, I think, but I see differences already. My teeth are noticeably whiter, my breath does not wheeze when I lay down at night, and although I am still out of breath with exertion, I made 1 minute 45 seconds on the eliptical trainer without collapsing afterwards. Yeah, a small amount, but so much better than the 25 seconds I started with! Onward and upward, I say...

Hi Denise,

You know this but I am going to repeat it anyway "No matter how bad it gets smoking will not help". Maybe for the first few drags but then it's all over, wasted and demoralised.

Positive mantra help and in my heyday of struggle I always used "I have no need nor desire to smoke" whilst deep-breathing until the debilitating urge had passed.

You've done it before, you can do it again!
Good Luck,
Penitent

Hi Denise,

Reading between the lines, I am so excited for you!  You sound the way I did at the start of my quit, and look where I am now.

Yes, the dreaded milestones, where you caved before, will come around, but with a positive outlook, which you definitely have, you will not see them as negatives, but be determined to ride them out.

I wish you well with this, your forever quit!  Do hang in there, fight the battles and win...it is so worth it!

Whatever it takes, just don't smoke!!!

Hi Denise and Welcome Back.
.
I have been here a few times myself..am 59 just like you and smoked for 40 plus years too..so I know how tough it can be to quit, but just like you I know it is even tougher to breath and enjoy life if we continue to smoke after this many years of smoking.

Congratulations on your very smart decision to quit. Now that you have quit, it is just like getting a second lease on life and you'll be able to enjoy your life so much more..

Drink a ton of water , have healthy snacks around , practice deep breathing. Yep , this is hard , but it is so very worth it !
