Day 6

Yes Ashley it did indeed sound insensitive....I am 62 and take pride that I maintain my weight between 115-117, it is not by accident.  Just because I'm a non-smoker now (Yipee!!!) I do not plan to gain weight during my quit and will do everything I can avoid that happening. So please be more understanding!!!!  Thanks.

Great work Carlos! Keep that strong, positive attitude.

2 lbs? That's nothing! Sorry that sounded insensitive. But really 2 lbs is likely just water weight. Sounds like you are back to normal now so keep up the great work!

Thanks all!  This AM the scale was down 1.4 to 117.6 so I am happy :)  I haven't added additional exercise, always walked 3-4 miles per day, but I can go more intensely already and smell the flowers while I walk  Life is good, moving to day 7!

2 lbs in 10 days is not normal for a "real" (non water retention or monthly cycle stuff) weight gain, especially if you are exercising and limiting calorie intake. Your metabolism does not slow that much from quitting smoking. It might make more sense to look at the pattern over a few months.

...And I'll tack on the usual disclaimer that i am not an MD, and that you should check with your physician.

Thanks Sarah and Welcome!!!  You have a quit date set, good for you :)  Best wishes for a great quit, it isn't easy but prepare well and it will be easier!

My cravings were less frequent and less intense today, you just have to stick it out!

2 lbs in 6 days could just be water retention or too much salt intake. Don't worry about the weight gain (unless it gets crazy). Just remember that you can work those few pounds off when the cravings aren't as strong. I am also worried about the weight gain as the last time I quit (was for 4 months) I gained 10 lbs. But I also didn't stick to the exercise or healthy eating. This time will be different. You can do this! I believe in you!

I'm hanging in there, it's been rough at times, but I did my homework beforehand so I have solutions ready!  The good news is I was up for 5 hours before the first serious craving hit!!!  Fought through it successfully!

Bad news is I have gained 2lbs UGH....and I've stayed on 1200 calories per day and walked at least 4 miles every day.  That is discouraging, I really want to get through this without having weight to lose afterwards, but so be it.  I will mitigate the gain as best I can while remaining a non-smoker!!!!!
