Hey Slmitch!

Welcome and congrats on your decision to quit!  Looks like  you are getting through the program well and experiencing the normal craziness quitting brings!  Keep that Positive Mental Attitude and it will make the whole quitting process a whole lot tolerable!   If you can stay determined and committed, no matter what, you can definitely find that freedom you are looking for!  Stick close, read and learn and post often!  It really helps!  We're all rooting for your!

Congratulations on getting through those brutal first 3 days.

Yes, the cravings can ebb and flow, but the overall pattern is that they decrease over time. Just realize that the tough days you have in the future will be milder than the ones you are having now.

If you haven't checked out the "Cravings Diary" under "My Program" at the top of this page. It is helpful to rate and record the cravings each day, so that you can see the pattern of less craving over time.

Another thing to put this in perspective is that you are most likely already having fewer craves daily than when you smoked. For me, a pack a day smoker, it went from 20 craves/ day (which I answered by smoking as a smoker) to about 8 craves/ day in the first week of my quit. Even though those 8 craves were pretty intense, it was already less than what I had experienced as a smoker. The only difference was that I noticed them more when I refused to respond to them by smoking.

Sly has pretty much nailed it, you are past the worst few days, they only get better from there!  I never want to have to go through those intial first days again, I am making this my last quit.

You can do this.  Everybody here is great and so supportive.

slmitch your past the worst so do not give in. Keep busy and have substitutes for your craves.
There will be days where it will drive you crazy and the fight will tire you out but in the end it is so worth it.
I enjoyed warm soaks in the tub and went  early to bed when the days were tough.
A good brisk walk playing your favorite tunes also helps clear your mind.
Wishing you strength.

Welcome! Slmitch..
There may be peaks, highs, lows, and know that it always gets better..I personally had some tough craves on day 7 than by day 10 they were going way down again..Even after having been quit for over a year I still have my moments sometimes. As time goes by you begin to see it for what it is "only temporary" and you know that any crave or desire will only last for a few seconds or maybe 3 to 5 minutes at most..

Turning in early and starting out fresh tomarrow is a great idea....

Your doing great!

I have been smoke free since Sunday, July 7th at 1:00A:M.

The first day I wanted to crawl right out of my skin......I was determined to make it 24 hours, and I did. Day two and three were okay, they were manageable. Today, at day 4 I am having some difficulty. I did not smoke, I will not smoke, I am committed to my decision. I am however a bit disappointed that today was so difficult. Are the peaks? and lows? I guess I just wanted each day to get better. I could not get it off my mind today.

I will turn in early tonight and start tomorrow fresh.
