heart problems

You're welcome - I hope it helps you come to terms as to why it happens to help you be more at ease with it. I loved that doctor! I know how hard it is to find one that will really listen and talk to you like a person instead of someone with anxiety wasting their time. She was fabulous! Unfortunately, she moved across country with her family last month. :confuse: And so, the search for another doctor is on....

Hi Vickey, Thank you so much, your explanations made a sense to what I am feeling, apparently your doctor devoted a little bit of his time to give you sound explanations, unfortunately not all of them are like that, mine often says its "anxiety" and that's it! thanks very much

Hey Anita! I just wanted to let you know that palpitations are very normal and are not dangerous! I know they are terrifying but I promise they are normal! Everyone gets them. It's just that we panickers pay more attention to them. This is how it was explained to me by my doctor. Your heart pumps out a certain amount of blood every time it pumps. Every now and again your heart gets too much blood built up and has to have an extra beat to push out the extra amount of blood. This will feel like your heart skips a beat or jumps extra hard. Both are true. It feels like it skips a beat because it actually does in order to build up and jump extra hard to get that extra amount of blood out. Very normal. If you feel a few extra fast beats afterwards, that is also normal because after the big jump, your heart tries to get back to a normal rhythm and so it has a couple extra fast beats in the process. What my doctor told me, and I have found to be true, is that once you realize this is normal and not dangerous, you will begin to stop noticing it as much and stop feeling it so profoundly. I still freak about it for a quick second when it happens, but I remind myself of this and it calms me down. I hope it helps you too!

Hey Lou! I know what you mean about getting news from a doctor that probably isn't a big deal but still makes your veins run cold. I just found out that I am anemic and even though everyone keeps telling me, "oh, it's no big deal, they'll just have you take iron to correct it," I can't get myself to stop freaking about it. It just makes me want to scream! When you go to your follow up appointment, remember that the sooner they catch something -IF- something is wrong, the better off you are. There are tons of things that can be done these days for any heart issue. You will be ok. I know it's easier said than done, but try to be strong and not worry. Go to your appointment and get it out of the way so you can put your mind at ease. Let us know how it goes!

Hi there i can relate to the heart thing but i had tests done to make sure it was ok the doctors all said it was ok then i had a call from the cardiologist's secretary the first thing she said was "we dont want you you worry but dr such and such wants you to come in for a follow up ultrasound" How does a person with panic disorder NOT worry!

Your thoughts will always trigger a panic attack. On the flip side, your thoughts can keep you from having a panic attack and can calm you when you are having one. Remember that just because you are thinking something, it doesn't make it a fact. I also have a heart phobia. I find the more I think about it, the more I am aware of every little disruption in the beating. The more I am aware of every little disruption, the more I panic, and around and around the cycle goes. I've been dealing with this for about 12 years now and I am now learning through the Panic Program offered here that it's not my heart that's the problem. It's my thoughts. The program is free - take advantage of it if you haven't started already. Go to your doctor and make sure there is nothing to be worried about with your heart. It's extremely common for panic sufferers to have fears about their hearts and to feel like their having heart attacks. If you browse through the messages, you will see how common this is. If your doctor tells you there is nothing wrong, then trust that there is nothing wrong. I know that's hard to believe when your heart is pounding out of your chest but remember when you are feeling this way that feelings do not change fact. I have to remind myself of this all the time, but it does help. Hang in there! You are stronger than you feel - I promise!
