Find Other Ways to Cope with Stress Learning how to relax is a great substitute. Also, we all know that quitting can be stressful. If you organize a coping plan ahead of time, periods of stress may be less intense for you. If you smoke for the following reasons, a stress coping plan may be right for you: • I smoke when I feel stress, and I’ll miss taking a break or time-out with smoking. • I’m very addicted to smoking and I’ll miss its effects on my body. • Smoking is part of my regular routine and I’ll miss it at my usual times.
