Waking up with anxiety

19 years ago 0 387 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I have woken up in the middle of the night with my heart racing. I've even woken up with my whole body buzzing - literally buzzing, especially my head. It is so hard to get back to sleep when you wake up panicking like that! I don't understand what that is, but I just wanted to let you know you're not alone with that problem. It doesn't happen often, but it does happen.

Thanks for your reply :o) I don't want to get out of bed those days. It's more because I know I HAVE to. I hate the days that I do things because I HAVE to. I know I'll start in a few days...that always sets me off. Whoever said that anxiety isn't hormone related wasn't a pmsing woman! I used to be so bad around my period that I wouldn't want to flip my head forward to blow dry my hair because I was worried someone would come into our home and hurt my daughter or myself. Silly, huh? Now it's embarassing. Then...it was very real. What do you do on those days? I seem to grit and bear it and tell myself, "Just a few more days." I have seen a psychiatrist. I refused the Paxil. I don't want to take medication. I know when I've been a lot worse than this. If I went back to there, I'd take it. But so far so good. Thanks, California

Kaeleysmommy, Welcome to The Panic Center. We thank you for sharing your story with us today. This support group is full of supportive individuals who may be able to help you answer some questions regarding panic and anxiety. Have you made any appointments to see a doctor? In the meantime please feel free to roam the site at your own pace. If you look to the left of the screen under "TOOLS" you will find many supportive tests. These tests are not diagnostic tools and are not a replacement or substitute for a physicians advice. The purpose of these tests is to prepare you with information that you can present to your physician. When you're finished the test, you can either print your Final Report or email it directly to your doctor. You may take a copy to your doctor, and this may help better the situation. We also have developed a Panic Program. This program is 12-weeks and involves the tools mentioned above. Each session is based on the previous session, so we strongly advise that you work slowly through the program and not jump ahead. If you have any questions or concerns with our "TOOLS" you can contact our support department at support@paniccenter.net. Take care and we hope to hear from you soon. Hi California, How are you feeling? I know how you feel about waking up with anxiety...those days I don;t want to get out of bed...because I am afraid to face the day...and it is a struggle....but I am trying hard to block off the thoughts and try keep busy... I have been dealing anxiety for a few years now...but the last year and a half it has become worse...I am 26 and also a postgraduate student, just finished law school and it was such a struggle...there were so many times that I could not make it my classes or work on assignments because I just couldn't do it...The medication helps and talking helps as well... I have a wonderful family doctor, and have talked with a psychiatrist and a counsellor for almost one year.... You will make a great psychiatrist:-) We are here for you :-) Good luck... Best, B

Hello Everyone, The reason I found this site was because I googled anxiety attacks and heart racing. I have had anxiety attacks for YEARS. I am 25. I think they started around puberty. I am going to school to be a psychiatrist. Those who can't teach? hehe. I have to get into medical school now. That's neither here nor there. I've read quite a few post. At some point in the last ten years I have experienced almost every symptom you all have. I can say that it gets better. I have never taken medicine. How ironic? I try to will myself out of it. I want to be a psychiatrist because I think they over medicate us. So, I'm happy to have read all your post. Okay, so my question to you all is...have any of you woke up in the middle of the night with your heart feeling like it's racing. Only it's really not. Maybe it's beating a little bit faster but it's not pounding in your ears. I can make it stop in a relatively short period of time. I tell myself, "Call down. Breathe. Go to sleep you're tired." And then I fall asleep and it doesn't happen again. Maybe for a few days, maybe until I take a nap, or maybe for a few months. I don't have this during the day. Of course part of my biggest fear is I'm having heart failure, I'm going to die, this will never stop, and feeling like nobody has experienced this before. It's awful. But as they say, "Misery loves company." So, someone please make me feel 'normal.' Good night and good luck, California :)
