You're both doing so well! And supporting each other like you are doing is such a help. I am still huge friends with a lot of my quit buddies, we rode the road together and formed such a bond, and its an enormous help to lean on another quitter.

The other thing is too, reaching for a smoke at times of crisis doesn't change a thing. In fact when the crisis passes you are back where you started, so never think again that smoking is the answer.

Keep up your great work- shall be keen to know how you're getting along.

Hello Mommy of 2 & Tired Mommy,

You are both doing so well!  It must be even more difficult to quit with young children around!  You have my admiration!

Mind you, my inspiration for quitting was my grandchildren, but I did not have to deal with them on a daily basis.  Winding down from kid dramas must be hard without your reward of a cigarette, but if you recognise that time as a danger zone, you will cope.

I had a Quit Corner,  which I retired to in times of cravings.  All my paraphernalia for beating cravings was there....just a couple of minutes choosing what to use and then doing it would calm that craving right down.  I carried a bottle of iced water for weeks.....like a pacifier, I could take sips to quell the craving!  It's also non-fattening!!!

Whatever it takes, just don't smoke!

That is soooo funny!  Thanks for the laugh!  You are so right though.  I am going to have to tell my 7 yo to brush her teeth 10 times in the morning whether I'm smoking or not.  So true and suck a great way of looking at it.  Before I decided to quit smoking I had lost 11 pounds.  I've lost an additional 3 so that's 14 in about 4 weeks.  Since yesterday I've just been trying to put something in my mouth every two hours to keep my sugar levels up - but trying not to make it anything fatty tail.  So I've done bananas, apples, cranberry juice, water, cheese, green olives.  And I've been trying to get on the eliptical a little and walk a little more than usual (which was basically none).  Btw you're right - smoking was a treat for me too!  Especially after they went to be I could go outside by myself and just smoke and decompress.

I am trying not to gain weight too...trying. I still have those weird times--like before my kids come home or after dealing with their drama---when I used to automatically smoke and I now come up with something else or carry on with what I was already doing but it still feels weird, I guess I saw cigarettes as my special treat for dealing with their craziness. A couple times last week when I was craving real bad I had to tell myself that my 12 year old would still be annoying whether I had a smoke or not .

Thank you Hot & Jenny.  I have read many of the threads in the cravings section.  The crave basket actually does sound like a good idea.  I pre-tried the straw idea before yesterday and it didn't really do anything for me.  I'm trying to stay away from gums, candies & lollipops because I had just recently started losing weight and want to keep that going.  But push come to shove I'll deal with the weight later.  Working -  as far as the rest of the day - it went one hour at a time.  Sometimes one slow hour at a time and sometimes a fast hour.  I was cooking dinner yesterday evening and it was almost time for my daughter to get off the bus and I thought "okay, turn the burners off and go outside before she gets home."  Then I chuckled and realized I didn't need to go outside anymore - no rush - no timeclock!  And one more thing - thank goodness for cranberry juice & green olives!

That's funny Tired Mommy!  I would rather be a grandma than a smoker though - right?  I started turning into my mother a long time ago!

Hi Mommies!

Check out the thread in the "Coping with Cravings'' forum.  I've bumped forward a thread called "Crave Basket"!   Former members have shared their personal favorite crave crushers there.  Also, you might do a search with "Crave Basket" in the key words area.  As I keep on saying, there's a wealth of information contained here on the forums!

       Happy Reading!

Mommy of 2,

Grats on your first day of your new life!! I found ice cubes, gum and straws to be very helpful. I kept a straw in my hand the first couple days to keep my hands busy, and I do still keep them close by just for something to play with when I feel like I am missing something. You will find what works best for you.

I understand. I feel like I am turning into my grandma--I now have a hard-candy stash--I have one when I am craving really bad!
