Today was difficult.

It's a slip no more, no less, pick yourself up, dust yourself off and get back on the horse, same quit. If a marathon runner tripped over a stone at mile 5 would you send them back to the starting line? of course not in that same context this is a journey, your journey, you stumbled, just watch for the stones in your way ;)

Jazzkeys:
This was just a slip.  Not a fall from grace.  Many of us had troubles with our first attempts at quitting.  The main thing is to get back to it.  A successful quit comes with practice.  Come here for help when you need it.

Hey Jazzkeys!!!

This is your quit and a slip is just that... a slip!  Learn from it and try to think of ways to cope the next time!  This is a learning process and it will take time to discover what will work for you in different situations!  The most important thing is to keep on quitting no matter what and as RMH says... don't beat yourself up over a slip!  Try to maintain a Positive Mental Attitude and keep telling yourself that you CAN do this!!!  We know you can... convince yourself!

Every day is given to us brand new and we get to decide what to do with it.  Don't beat yourself up and think you are bad, we can sure be hard on ourselves in our own heads.  Think about what you would say to someone you love if they slipped, you wouldn't tell them they are bad!  Be kind to yourself!

Get back and track and don't look back! Keep pushing forward, as sonia said don't let this be the end of your quit.

jazzkeys,

Don't let this slip be the end of your quit!  You can totally jump back on the wagon and make smoke free living even more of a priority. Going forward, what are some coping strategies you can use should a challenging craving arise? How can you plan to avoid a slip in the future?

I had one today, day 7. I find the cravings increased today. It is my day off and though I kept busy cooking and buying groceries I finally did have one. Do I have to start over? or can I just continue my quit?
I feel like I did a bad thing.

Hi Jazzkeys - Hang in there; you're doing great - even if you haven't quite figured out what the heck's going on with your emotions the last few days.  The blues will pass and the anger's a coping mechanism that many of us have gone through - makes you realize just what a hold ol' nico-demon had on you though! It really feels great when you work through it; maybe it'll inspire a new tune for your jazzkeys?  Or you can tinkle away on your keyboard here and post your thoughts.  We're here for you Jazz : )  Eyja

Hey Jazzkeys!!!

Way to go!!!  You are well on your way to freedom!  We all promise that it will get better, and it really does!!!  Right now, I know that your mind is probably totally obsessed with those damn cigarettes, as most of ours were!  You are not alone in this!!!  One of my main coping tools was to come here to the forums to read, post, get support and support others here who were going through the same thing at about the same time... you know, a quit buddy!  I spent hours here reading and learning everything I could about cessation!  Knowledge is power and many of us need all of the power we can get to defeat this addiction!

Just remember, we're all pulling for you and will help in any way we can!  Keep your eyes on the prize... FREEDOM!!!

        You can do this!!!

Hi Jazzkeys,

Congrats on day 4! You are halfway through Hell Week. Right now is going to be tough but it will pass. Just fight through it and I promise the cravings will subside.  Use the program to help you.

Feeling empty and lost are actually common feelings for quitters . Some people compare it to getting over a bad relationship.  Even though the cigarettes were bad for you they still were always there when you were bored, happy, sad, lonely, etc.  Now it is important to find replacements for cigarettes.  It will take time but if you put these substitutions in place you will find the void cigarettes left will slowly close.

What are some replacement coping mechanisms or activities you could add to your daily routine?
