Day 15 and feeling pretty good

Hi Sfree : )  You're doing great so far!  Congrats on almost 3 weeks 'sfree'!  I agree with you that weekends are the toughest.  To disassociate the drinks/reward from cigarettes, I looked for a habit change where I could have my beer and drink it too : ) A new place to put up a dart board (where you can't smoke); a game of cards in the house (smoke free environment) even a new fave place to sit can keep your quit fresh even after a few cocktails.  Also keeping a distance from other smokers is helpful.  Have a great weekend and enjoy : )  Eyja

There you go, Sfree!!!

Another smoke-free weekend under your belt and your third week will be behind you!  Keep those daily, weekly and monthly rewards in mind whenever your motivation starts to wane!  You are doing great, so far!!! We're all proud of you!!!

Great advice friends, thanks!  I agree with you Jim on the rewards system.  It is a great motivator and helps me to realize all the great things I can enjoy doing smoke free.  I feel amazing today and am looking forward to another smoke free weekend:)

Hi Sfree, Great work. One of the things I found helpful is every morning I wake up and think "I'm not going to smoke today" and every evening before I fall asleep I congratulate myself for achieving something very, very admirable and that is that I didn't smoke today.
I am several months into quitting and I still do it each day and I intend to do it for the rest of my life.
I think that when we start to forget what a great achievement it is to overcome this addiction is when we fall prey to relapse. Good Luck Sfree !

Hey Sfree!!!

In the beginning, my strategy for dealing with the alcohol issue was the reward system!  I made a pact with myself that if I made it through the day smoke-free, I would reward myself with a delicious, frosty fermented beverage (or 2)!!!  One slip and there would be no beer for me when I got home from work!!!     Hmmm...  may that have been the real reason my quit was successful???

It's no secret that the journey to freedom is going to take a LOT of self discipline and sacrifice!  If you are going to have a drink or two, one of the main things you'll have to keep in the front of your brain is N.O.P.E!!!  You are no longer a smoker!!!  Right???

      You're doing it!!!

Good to see you are doing so very well Sfree!  Congratulations with your achievements which by the way first two weeks are the toughest.  May I suggest to be very careful for the first few weeks with alcohol beverages.  There is something about it that stirs up the nicodemon; coffee can have a similar effect.  Whatever works however you will find that you can have one without the other.  Takes a little time and some getting use to.  Its a trigger to tame so tame it with thoughtfullness.

Hi sfree,

Congrats for making it through another weekend!  Several members have suggested drinking ice water helps. Taking small sips when drinking and having light snacks on hand help the craving to pass.

I made it through another weekend which is great for me.  My biggest challenge is the weekends when I want to relax and have a cocktail.  I noticed that I had an extra drink seeking out the feeling smoking gave me and know I need to be careful of that.  Any advice from others?
