Satori, you say you are not angry with yourself or even guilty. I say you feel both or you else you wouldn't have posted using a sorry _a__-title. I think we need two types of love to get the job done-- the soft forgiving kind, and tough love. Beating yourself up will not help, but taking responsibility for continuing to smoke will. You really do determine your own fate when it comes to this issue. You just have to decide not to smoke and you'll know when you've made that decision because you won't smoke. It isn't likely that quitting will be easier next week or next month or next year. I had to understand that before I was able to be successful at quitting. I had to commit to my quit. Quitting is something I do constantly; its just feels automatic now. However, getting to that point took practice. I had perfected the art, science, and economics of smoking and had to practice undoing the learning. To quit smoking, first off you have to not smoke. Then you have to continue to practice not smoking. After a while, you'll ignore the packs behind the convenience store counters, get away from people who are smoking or who smell of smoke. I now believe I'm allergic to cigarette smoke. That's tremendous progress.

For some people it's easy to quit, for others it's pure he!!

For me it was the latter! All my free time was spent in the bathtub bawling with a washcloth over my face. My daughters thought that I was possessed! Well I guess in a way I was. I was possessed by the addiction.

Maybe you should get mad at yourself. Maybe you should feel guilty, and then maybe the next time you won't allow yourself to head down to the convenience store to buy a pack.

I'll honestly say that is the only way I've kept my quit and that is to tell myself that I can't have that "1", because if I do it'll lead to that 2 pack a day addiction again within days.

There is a great saying that says it all ~ One is too many and a thousand is never enough.

Don't give in to that first one and you'll be home free!

First off if you were on the patch you should have had a 12 week period were you did not smoke because that's how long the program is for the patch.So if you are going to use the patch use it for the full period of time.Secondly don't give that bull about not having what it takes to get the job done your here aren't you so that tells me that you have made the decision to quit.Whatever it takes do it , the patch, gum whatever you won't regret it .

Quitting is the hardest thing that you will ever do in your life, and if you want your quit more than anything else, you WILL succeed, I promise! I smoked for years and years and tried quitting over and over!!! If first you don't succeed..... you know the story! One thing that really helps when you get those gut-wrenching craves is to post for help here on the forums and wait for 5 replies!!! By then, your crave will be gone and you'll have saved yourself $6 or $7!!!

That's worked for soooo many people here and I'm sure that it could help you the next time!!!

On my final quit, I declared war on the nico-demon... I considered it a war that I could not afford to lose! I practically lived in front of the computer screen reading and posting on these forums! The distraction was invaluable and my quit buddies were here to help! So, keep sticking with us! You CAN do this!!!

I have had an amazing three weeks. Hell and heck weeks were completely tolerable. I was not particularly miserable - was getting quite adept at focusing on the 'now' and not worrying about tomorrow or next week or next year. Then last week week it seemed to come off the rails. The cravings were becoming more frequent and more intense. I was preaching and practising positive thoughts - distracting myself with other things when the cravings hit and acknowledging that 'this too shall pass'. I thought maybe four or five days would look after it. It didn't. Last night I just had enough of the internal dialogue. The constant 'fighting' in my head got the better of me. I just headed out the door, down to the convenience store and bought a pack. Lit one up and felt the relief flood thru me. I don't feel guilty. I don't feel angry at myself. I just don't know why I don't have whatever it is I need to kick this.

Forgot to set back my stats before posting this.

I don't know what I'm going to do now. Maybe try the patch again. Grrrrrr.
