So nice to see you popping by again Brenda. I hope your business is coming along great. Interesting to note you don't even thing about smoking anymore. It does come to that with time - and ferreting out all the triggers that sneak up up on you. Eventually you become the 'authentic' person you are meant to be sans nicotine -and that self esteem begins to grow! Look at all the years ahead you have to grow younger with those lungs working great and not put to waste! Good on ya. Eyja

You look like you are a teenager again!!! Yes, at the beginning you DID struggle, but you didn't quit quitting!!! For all of you recent quitters, that is the name of the game! You CAN do this even if you have a set back or two! Never quit quitting!
Ashley, my self-esteem is a lot higher. Doing something that is so difficult to do, that I almost gave up on doing because I kept failing at it has given me a new lease on life, a new way to view my mind and body. And because I no longer smoke I can do more physical things like run. So quitting smoking has helped me lose a lot of weight and took years off of my looks, people are telling me.
Interesting discussion. First thing that came to mind is I'm not surprised at all. Considering all the changes you have made inside and out it makes sense that the new you no longer desires a cigarette. It seems to conflict with your authentic self and what you value now. What do you think is different about you now post quit and post all the changes you have made over the last few years? What made you get to that point?
I've been asking myself questions about my lack of desire to smoke. I was so addicted when I smoked that it now seems strange that I just don't want to. I passed a smoke shop yesterday and tried to remind myself of the 'good ole days' and came up empty. Those days weren't good, because I smoked because I had to. It's like getting excited about walking your new puppy until you realize you have to walk him come rain or shine, summer or winter. Sometimes our memories betray us. One of my friends was talking about the 1960s recently and how wonderful of an era she used to think those years made up. However, when she remembered the Vietnam War, the protests, the Civil Right Movement, the numerous riots, the police violence--the only memory that seems to be worth hanging onto is that of the marijuana and better marijuana is even being grown now California. I'm not sure that I ever smoked because I liked it. It was an obligation like working. Not to mention it made me look stupid. I got addicted from the first drag off of a cigarette. I tried to quit the first month I started and couldn't. I didn't try again until aids were developed to help. I should sit and try to estimate just how much money I wasted on cigarettes.
