I need help!

My therapist suggested I do more work in my anger management workbook, which I suppose makes since I am very upset with myself.  Yesterday I felt somewhat better, but today I am really in the dumps.  I am just trying to get through the day, because all I feel like doing is going home, going back to bed and pulling the covers up over my head.  Felling this way sucks.  My advice to everyone:  keep your quits, no matter what.

How am I doing?  I guess that depends on what you are talking about.  From a standpoint of not smoking, I am doing fine.  Smoking is the last thing I want to do.  As for how I am dealing with this incident, I would have to say very badly.  My mood vacillates between not so good and totally in the toilet.  Overall, I would say I am not doing very well.

Hi want to be free,  just checking in.. and I really hope you are feeling better.     Stress, relationship issues and vacation..and alcohol..  trigger city.

I'm hoping that things are working out.  Is there a way to make your job less stressful.. maybe some brainstormng or writing down little things will help you sort out some of the issues.

We used cigarettes not only for rewards, but also to hide from our emotions, learning to see these emotions now, and not hiding behind a cloud of blue smoke, or stuffing them by inhaling them.is really a different situation now.

I have discovered.. I can voice my opinion in many circumstances where I used to just walk away and light up... it is better, the end of the world has not crashed down.. in fact seeing and experiencing my emotions has helped me to enjoy life and all the little idiocycriencies (sorry sp).

Hold you head high, if someone would laugh at you for a slip.. i'm not too sure I would want to be part of that group.

Hi WantToBeFree2010,

I am glad everyone here was able to give you both great advice and support...you will find that this is a common occurance on this board.

If I can echo what your son told you...you have been three day smoke free! And you will bring to this quit some new knowledge as to what some of your triggers may be to avoid next time.

Take a quick re-read of the section in Milestone 4 entitled coping with stress.  It will take you back to the basics of 1)avoid, 2)distract, 3)leave and 4)delay.  Do you use self talk as a coping mechanism?

Keep on posting and letting us know of your successes.

I want to thank everyone for your support.  The past several days have been very difficult for me, partly due to my screw-up, partly due to some relationship issues that came up, and it probably also had a lot to do with my vacation ending.  My job has been very stressful the past few months, and getting away on vacation was a tremendous relief.  I guess I just had a bad anxiety attack.

Leslie, I didn't find anything in your post to be harsh; I was just agreeing with your assessment, it was a very stupid thing to do.

Hi WantToBeFree2010 ~

I would like to apologize.  My previous post may have sounded a bit harsh and I didn't mean for it to come off that way.
You made a mistake, yes, but you are now learning from it and you need to move on and keep what you have learned close in your thoughts so you won't make the same mistake again.
This is your quit, no one else's, don't let what others think affect you.  Stand proud and ignore the nay sayers.  Quit beating yourself up and tell yourself that you won't make the same mistake (or any like it) again

You can do this

Wanttobe, don't be so hard on yourself - if it was a slip and just one, don't say it was 8 1/2 mths wasted.  Please don't get depressed and stress yourself out more than you already have.  I did the very same thing last month because of an anniversary and B/D celebration and smoked on my 85th day. but didn't stop with one, I smoked a few every day for 9 days and felt really bad, regretted smoking and started my quit meter over.

I know I can't let my guard down or get too confident because I'm a puff away from a pack a day!  It bothers me that I still want to smoke sometime and feel like I miss it but I'm battling the nicodemon and working really hard to win this quit.  Probably won't go back through all this again, if I fail.  Been there and done this too many times already.

Take the good advice the others have offered (they have been there done that also (many of them for 1 year or longer).  Do it for YOU.  Doesn't matter that some may see as a failure or just another quit or that you can't do it.  Avoid them, learn from the slip and dust your self off and get back up and move forward on your journey.
You can do it!

Wanttobe, you know that we are our own worst critics! You are being very hard on yourself. Yes, it was a mistake, but come on man, you are only human, not superman! When we know better, we do better, well now you know better! Next time you will have a plan in place and you will know that Smoking is NOT an option, right?
As for this other group who will laugh at you? Who needs a group like that? That's not what I would call supportive! Don't even tell them! You are doing something for yourself, not for anyone else, it is you that counts!
Look at all you have gained, you have not lost anything yet! Like I said  its our mistakes that make us human and we learn from them. I am so glad that you stopped at one and came back here for support! You are on the right track Buddy! Stay the course!
