Frustration

Hi Kbell!
Don't feel that way! I'm a Christian too, and God gives us the strenght to carry on tasks we tought were impossible. But you have to help yourself first; the Lord will help you if you really want to do this.
You know is the best decision you can ever make. I also recommend the Allen Carr Book and also a free internet course. It hs the same principles the Allen Carr's methodology has.
Go trough my Program here, and plan ahead. Set coping mecanisms and you will be fine. This community is a great support!
Great counselors and great encouraging quit buddies!
You can do it! It's the best gift you will ever give to yourself!
Welcome
Marivi

i too am a christian and let me assure you , prayer is what really got me through the tough times.you might have times when the cravings really get strong , in those times go to the lord and prayer and ask him to either take the cravings away , and / or give you the strength to endure until they pass. remember , god was with daniel in the lions den , he was with paul in the prison , he was with abraham when abraham was called to sacrifice isaac  , and god took care of them all.
i will pray for your strength , please , you can do this and then be of so much help to others.

god bless you ,

Kbell,

You've received alot of great advice and support from your fellow quitters!

Write up a list of things you can do to keep you busy (e.g., chores, redecorating the house, movie dates, walks, etc.).  Keep in your pocket some favorite Bible verses that you can reach for when ever you have a crave or need that extra motivation.  And post here, we are standing by 24/7!

You can do it!

Members, keep the encouragements coming!

kbell,
We all understand your frustration  trying to deal with this monster!  I can't add a word to KC416 and Rock's great advice. I can  share that  my smoking career history is very similar to yours ( started young, definite aorta problems if I didn't quit,  years of frustration and unhappiness with myself). You can do this and everyone here wants for your success! It all begins with you!

Hi Kbell and welcome!  I have made it this far relying heavily on the strength of prayer and a whole lot of courage.  This is not my first quit and I have been struggling with quitting since being diagnosed with COPD two years ago.  I smoked since I was 12 and got up to over 2 packs (sometimes 3) a day.  I've had great success with both patches and Chantix in the past, but the most important is mindset and a committment to adhear to 'NOPE'-Not One Puff Ever.  Then just do it!  Work the program offerred here and you might try reading Alan Carr's book.  If you do a search, there are some really cool prayers on strength and courage in relation to addictions.  I have one that touched me printed out (it's rather long), and whenever the urge to smoke came on, I would make myself read it.  By the time I did, the crave had passed.
Good luck, and welcome again.  You CAN do it---I promise.

Kbell, you've been given some great advice from KC.  Read the Alan Carr book.  Go through "my program" on this site so you are 110% prepared for your quit.  Do a search on the "patch" here so you can get tons of information on previous users of the patch.  Pick a quit date and add your quit meter from "my profile" to your postings so you can see your progress.  I quit after 20 years of smoking when my doctor told me I would be on coumadin the rest of my life if I didn't quit.  I had a blood clot in my leg and a non-cancerous cyst/tumor on the base of my spine.  I have too much to live for than to be tied down to medications at my age and be at the cancer hospital for tests every week.  You are in the same boat!  You need to be healthy, and stay healthy!!! The first week or two weren't that easy, but I survived!  I read, read, read, read and posted, posted, posted here.  I went for walks.  I cleaned the rooms in my house where I used to smoke.  I rearranged furniture.  I put together a reward program to celebrate each smoke free day and smoke free week.  I took care of myself, which I hadn't done before.  Just remember this quit is all about YOU!  Put together a plan, pray over it, then implement it.  Somebody is always here 24/7 if you need anything!  We're all rooting for your success!

Hello Kbell, There is no better time to quit than NOW! I can tell you are frustrated with your bad habit and that you wish you never started to begin with, you are not alone, we were all in the same boat. I believe you truly have to "want" to quit to finally do it and it sounds like you are ready! With your recently diagonsed heart problems nothing could be more encouraging to make you want to finally butt out than that. I myself am a christian and with your strong faith in God, I ask you to put the same faith in yourself, as I did early in my quit and with determination and prayer you will be able to come through this tough time and beat the nicodemon. God gives us many opportunities to better ourselves, it is up to us to take the right road. You have already started your quit mentally by joining this site and thats wonderful, so how about you pick a quit date? In between now and that date, prepare youself for your quit. Possibly pick up some old hobbies to keep your self busy, buy a new book to read, there is a book by Alan Carr - guide to quitting smoking- Everyone raves about it on this site. Buy some cards and learn some new solitare games, go on line and get some new recipes and start cooking old time favourites, do some house work that has been put aside, start gardening since spring is right around the corner,  get straws, hard candy, sunflower seeds, popsicles or whatever it is you fancy to keep your hands and mouth satisfied. Once you have the date picked and your ready to work hand in hand with God, slap that patch on your arm or where ever and start the quitting process. I promise you, YOU CAN DO THIS! Dont be discouraged because positive thoughts = positive outcomes! GOD BLESS YOU!

I am 61 years old and have been troubled by my smoking excessively for the last year.  I am a christian and the Lord has been troubling me about this.  I have started changing "little" behaviors and have been successful most of the time.  No one in my family smokes. I do have patches, but have not had the GUTs to put them on.  I have been feeling this need to quit, and just recently found I have an aortic anuersym and arotic valve abnormality.  This should be DUH quit.  The cardiologist has said that would be the best 4 things to do to help this problem not progress as quickly.  I am extremely hyper active an must stay busy.  If I am not ya know what I do!  I don't doubt the power of the Almighty, but I sure am not co operating.  Some days I have peace that I can do this w/His power which is great enough for all things.  I have smoked since I was 15 and now when I light up I think, you are so stupid for continuing this.  Just bite the bullet and DO it.  I am a bit discouraged right now.
