I kind of find this interesting in that we have  a smart person who is now president who happens to have an addiction of smoking just like all of us on here have or had in the past. The addiction can afflict anyone no matter what background they come from.  I find it interesting how the news does not quite know how to report on it in the news. Instead of informing us of this horrible addiction and what it is, they kind of try to play gotcha on whether the Pres has quit or not.   The best thing the president can do is to create more programs and sites like this to give people a way to get over their addictions whatever they might be. It would actually be a financial gain because people would be more productive, it would reduce the health care expenses, and bring funds out of the tobacco companies hands into other more health conscious industries that are needed at this time.  If he could participate in this process by quitting smoking and speaking about it would be a great way to help others to do the same. Maybe I'll twitter him on this and to come on over to SSC.
Ron

I expect to see your name on the ballot next time---and if your health care plan pays for that liposuction to be routed from the hips to the chest, you got my vote too!
Just because he smokes doesn't make him a bad person, but by quitting he would send a positive message to the people.  We all know this addiction isn't an easy monster to defeat and Obama's public battle with the beast would humanize him and other smokers would identify with him and might follow his lead....

HP, I concur about annexing Belgium!  :)  I also volunteer to be Obama's quit buddy!  There are so many stories out there about him being a "bad role model" since he smokes.  I am rooting for him to be a quitter!
