Hi Jay, Welcome to the SSC!
I said the same thing... wish I had found this site ages ago. But I found it this year and I don't think I would still be quit if I hadn't found it! The program and support from all the members is unique. We are all here to help each other!

Understandably you would not want to use any medications that would effect your driving abilities!  Are you able to use any of the NRT (nicotine replacement therapies) like the gum or patches? I used the patches because I knew I wouldn't make it cold turkey. Glad to hear you will ask your Doctor for the best choice.  Whatever you think will work is the right tool to use!!

Good that you have started reading the program to prepare yourself... it's the only one (I think) that centers on rewarding yourself for doing a good job. Really works! Many here talk about having a positive mental attitude which is super important!! Allan Carr's books are good for getting the brain going in a positive direction.

Keep in touch and let us know how you are doing... someone is usually around to answer any questions or help out.
This is a great place to quit and so happy you found it!

Best,
HP

Hello Jay  Welcome to The SSC. Some people use NRT's ( nicotine replacement therapys ) and some quit cold turkey. I stopped smoking cold turkey. By reading posts and posting , the other members here , reading all I can about the programme and following a few simple suggestions I've managed to stay smoke free. We are here to support each other in our journey to stop smoking. I look forward to reading your posts and if you need help with anything post and someone will reply. breather 58 Addict 0

I am Jay Gutknecht and have smoked since 12 years old and am almost 55 now.  I have tried before and last time was last year I made it a week.  I wish I had found this program and am going through the preporation and am going to try the small steps.  When I tried before the symptoms seemed to me to get worse daily and all consuming so I may take the suggestion of seeing a doctor as well.  I'm a truck driver so some of the medications I can't use like chantrix since they now say that it will disqualify me from driving while on it.  Not sure what else is available that way.  My wife quit using chantrix.
