It is scary, but the fear will hold you back.  It is even scarier to feel the effects that smoking does to you.  I hated smoking so much and hated the thought of quitting even more...crazy.  It isn't so scary once you get a handle on it.  You should know, sounds like you could share some advise on how to get it done here.

Glad you joined us.

Kelly

Welcome, welcome, welcome!  Congratulations on giving it another shot - let's make this your final quit.  I felt scared at the beginning as well, as if I was giving up my best friend. I had no idea how to do anything without a smoke. But......as I got closer to my quit date, I started getting really excited and wanted to quit before my chosen date!!  However, I stuck to my schedule and quit on Jan 3rd of last year.  Both my hubby and I were pack a day smokers for 30+ years, and he quit as well.  We both used the patch, and followed the directions exactly.
Read, read and read some more.  Knowledge is power.  Set up your quit meter, load up on healthy snacks, and let's get this done!!

Hi Sue... Welcome to the SSC!

Same as you... I had quit a few times before but not for very long. It seemed scary to really quit though. My particular fear was how to handle all the different emotions and situations without a cigarette. As this quit progressed I was lucky to find this site. Everyone here really helped me get through each situation. Does not feel half as scary! I feel like I have a whole team behind me this time.  It has been rough at times but I'm much more confident of success.

When I first quit, I was glued to this site and read way back in the forums. It was a relief to see that so many had gone through the same fears and issues. There was so much good advice that I felt more prepared. Don't worry, this time stick close and post whenever you want! There is usually someone around to help out. You can do it!

Best,
HP

Hi Everyone,

I found this website through my work a few months ago and kinda went through it but ...

Now I am seriously looking at this website and everyone who participates as a means of support ... thank you :)

I've already started using the patch at work, it's too cold out to go for a smoke LOL, so I don't smoke during the day and when I quit I will continue to use the patch.  I've quit for 2 years before (about 10 years ago) and again for 8 months about 5 years ago.

Just the thought of quitting and going through physical/emotional withdrawls makes me so anxious and I hate that cigarettes have that hold over me ... ughhh!!!

My partner also smokes and we are both going to try and quit, however we have not set a common quit date, that will be up to each of us individually.  We don't smoke in the house, we stopped that with our last new house.  I have set my date as this coming Monday ... so onward and upward :)

Thanks everyone,
Sue
