Hi all,
Ron here saying hello to all on the non smoking journey.  Just wanted to say that I am still smokefree after 6 mo and that quitting has been the best thing I could have done for myself.   I also encourage all to put all their resources into keeping their quits, it really is worth it!

Some of the best things I realized after quitting was how many other things have come into my life that have substituted the “wanting a cig every 30 minutes 365 days a year”. What that means is a lot more time to do other things.  For me it has been getting into learning about diet and foods that are good for you.  It’s almost like once I quit my whole tastes changed.  I went more to a fruit and plant based diet and started to exercise again.  I’ve lost 20 lbs in the process and feel much better. I really recommend going to a natualpathic doctor just to learn about how to heal your body naturally. I learned a lot and it helped I think to recover from the years of bad decisions I made in the past.

Another interesting thing is I feel so much more responsible for my actions and my life. When I smoked I always was blaming everyone else for my frustrations and I always thought I deserved smoking because of what life and people subjected me to.  Once I got through some time on my quit I started to realize that my nicotine addiction created most of my problems and once I was off that addiction my excitement and interest in life came back as well.  I starting reading more, trying new things and not being afraid to explore.  I also get to spend time helping and listensing to others.  When I was smoking all I heard was the little moster in the back of my mind saying gimmy some more nicotine.  I never cared much to do anything but satisfy that monster. That monster has packed up and has mostly gone.  I will admit that not every day is the same. There still are times when I feel vulnerable to wanting to have just one.  The last time that occurred was when I was with the whole family on vacation for a week (too many of the same genes in one room).  Also during the holidays can be more stressful and bring up these feelings.  I just do as my yoga instructors tell me to do during my classes when this happens. Breath deeply and just observe the thoughts without acting on them.  Anyway I know that God created us live abundantly if we just go back to the basics, and I know that includes not ingesting tobacco. I like to say I’m no longer surviving but thriving.  It does get easier as time passes and I can go through a good amount of time without even thinking about the nasty little cigarette who I used to call my friend ...NOT.

Wish all the best and want to say hi to the other 17th of the month quitters who are my mentors-- Terry, Dailyllama, Mistymoon, and Stormy. Happy Holidays to all. Ron
