5 Months and craving????

16 years ago 0 303 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I think you hit the nail on the head DB.  You heard some bad news and the nicodemon started talking.  That's common.  Just remember that this is not nicotine withdrawl.  Unless you were taking the gum until just recently the nicotine is long gone; however, the talking in your head will last as long as you will listen.  3 months or so into my quit my van broke down on the way home from work and I didn't have a cell phone so I had to walk for awhile to get to a phone.  When I arrived at the convinence store I made my phone call and grabbed a bottle of pepsi and walked to the front cash.  The guy asked me "Will that be everything" and as I starred at 10000 packs of cigarettes behind him I heard that same voice.  "C'mon your having a bad day buy a pack have one and throw the rest away." I sarcastically replied "Yeah, cause that will fix my car."  Not out loud by the way.  lol.

Some might argue that I was going through nicotine withdrawl but I don't buy that.  The nicotine had been long gone from my body.  I believe its getting rid of the illusion that there is something to gain by smoking.

Sorry to hear about the insulin.  My dad is a diebetic also and although he says the needles are not fun he does get to hang out with my 3 year old son a lot and he does enjoy his new car along with many other aspects of his life.  Had he not quit smoking many years earlier who knows if things would have turned out differently.

Congratulations on your success DB.  Your doing great.

Eventually you wont the the nicotine gum anymore... I eventually replaced with chewing gum. I have lots of it. It really helps with the cravings

5 months is Awesome!  Still craving after 5 months.  Oh yes, I sure did.  I am assuming the gum you are speaking of is nicotine gum.  While I'll say that his definately better than smoking, I wouldn't want to put nicotine back into my system once it was finally out.  I say that 10% of the quit is getting the nicotine out of your system and 90% of the quit is the mental aspect that comes with quitting.

When I quit, I used peppermint to replace my smokes.  Perhaps something like that would be better than the gum and give you the same satisfaction.  I did begin to crave peppermint instead of the smokes.  It's worth a try isn't it?

No matter what, don't quit quitting.  Smoking stinks!

Deepbreath,

I can only agree with what everybody else says here.  I think you are have some 5 month craves, these are purely in the head so keep that nicotine away. Like HP said,  Don't get those receptors going again on a rampage looking for the nicotine.  You are doing a fantastic job and this is just a phase that you will need to power through. You can do it, your doing fantastic.

Hey Deepbreath!!!

Congratulations on being over 5 months smoke-free!!  Great job!   This is really a stressful time of year for most of us and we must all be very aware of this and do what it takes to protect our quits!!!  I think that this is the nico-demon's favorite time of the year with all of the family gatherings and such!!  So, do review those coping mechanisms, reasons for quitting and keep the Positive Mental Attitude you had in the beginning of your quit!!!   If you are having success with the gum and it is keeping you from smoking, go for it!  We're non-smokers now and we-re going to fight to stay that way, right?

   Keep up the great quit!
