thanks for your answers. Really it's just a curiousity question for me as I'm not having issues with weight due to medications but had heard so much about it I wanted to see what others taking anxiety medications were going through. Thanks again.

PAXIL. That is it. I hear that does cause a lot of weight gain.

I have heard that one of them is the big weight gain. I am trying to remember the name of it.... I have taken Zoloft and Lexapro and my total weight gain on both was maybe 5-6 lbs.

I just started back on Prozac last month and a few weeks ago started on Buspar. I've lost about 13 pounds. But I feel really nausous most mornings and can't eat until late afternoon. The first time I was on Prozac I didn't notice any weight loss or gain. My anxiety is a lot worse in the mornings so I'm sure that's contributing to me not being able to eat.

I am taking effexor XR, I exercised regulary before starting this med and also ate well. I continued the exercise and eating healthy and I have gained no weight at all.

Hi Racheal! Yes some meds do cause weight gain. I used to have a really good metabolism, before meds. Now I have to make sure I eat healthy and exercise regularly, or else the pounds pack on.

I have noticed and read that many of the anti anxiety medications can cause weight gain. So, my question strictly from curiosity is for those who have experienced weight gain with an anti anxiety medication. Did you notice that your eating habits or exercise habits changed? When I started on Zoloft I actually lost a couple of pounds-the medication would make me just naseous enough to not want to eat much. My doctor said weight loss was unusual and many people gained 20 pounds on Zoloft. Of course, now that I have been on it for about 6 months or so, I have gained a few pounds. However, I know it's been of my eating habits-I have definately eating more. Anyone else lose weight when starting a medication?
