Forever is Difficult to Fathom

"Henny Penny"  So VERY well said - "price to pay for having ever picked one up in the first place"  I realize that years down the road I will have cravings, I hear this from past smokers and even myself who quite for 5 years one time and started up again (gave into the one puff).

Having a craving or two for a few minutes down the road every now and then is better then being a smoker and it may be a craving I get for the rest of my life I just know I cannot give into the "one puff".  I am willing to deal with that as it is so much better being a non smoker then a smoker.

Hello Stickin',
When I mentioned to a neighbor that I had quit smoking, he told me he still gets smoking thoughts - 12 years later.
Ouch!
He is a very tightly wound individual so perhaps it's just him.

After hearing that, I figured they would just always be around, those thoughts. Our price to pay for having ever picked one up in the first place. I'm glad to know it so I will be prepared many years down the line.  I'm ready.

take care my friend,
HP

I avoided going in  2 stores.. for about 6 months.  I used to buy smokes there sometimes..

I can go days without thinking of smoking.. and then boom... I am learning.... these thoughts go away, and days of peace will return.   Stress and getting tired are HUGE triggers..

yes that little ugly devil has to try and remind us ... we let him in... and now we have to keep our quits.. shiney and new..or putting up a chain link fence with barb wire.....

Wow, stickin to it!
I was beginning to think that my wife and I were the ones who have those thoughts! Whenever she or I go into a convenience store and see that wall of cigarettes behind the cashier.....Well, you get my drift. Thanks for sharing.

Hey Stickin,

Very nice post.  Even though we have this beat the demon always seems to lurk.  My van broke down yesterday on the way home from work and I don't have a cell.  So I got to walk for awhile till I finally got to a store with a payphone (Walkings getting easier by the way).  I went to the counter with my pepsi in hand and when the cashier said "Is that all" a voice said "Your having a bad day, why don't you buy a pack have one and throw the rest away?"  I sarcastically replied "Yeah, cause that'll fix my van.  F$#% off.....lol....

I guess we always need to keep our guard up....Even when everything seems like it's ok that's when they put you to the test...

So I will take this as a sign from God that I need more exersise....lol...

Again, Great post Stickin....Thank you for showing us the way...

Hey Stickin'!

Thanks for musings this afternoon!  I, too, have had those damn thoughts for the last couple of days and like you, I know that these thoughts are stress induced.  I can go for days without thinking about having a cigarette and then, BOOM... there are those thoughts!

I know that the nico-demon is not completely banished from the depths of my brain, but the little sucker is VERY weak!!  He'll probably keep coming back for some time, but he knows that he is defeated!!  I think he just has to let me know that he USED to be the master, but now he's almost nothing at all!!!

So, I am waiting for the day when the healing will be done and there will be no more thoughts!  I'm not too anxious about getting to that day too soon, because I know it will come!   I'm just going to take journey one day at a time and KNOW that I will not smoke!

Have a great smoke-free day everyone!

What a great post Stickin, it's nice to know that even though you have thoughts of smoking after all this time there's just no chance of you giving in. I believe I'll have "thoughts" the rest of my life I just wanted to know they are controllable and few and far between. I want to be able in 5 or 10 years know they are just thoughts

Thanks

Lisa

Forever is difficult to fathom however a day can be had.  When you have a moment, think back on the time when you had your last.  Think about the why you quit and the how you got to where you are today.  Think about how easy it might be to have one and think about how demanding and draining to quit once again.  Time does heal when you allow it to; meaning, take no notice of the thought.

Seldom (every few months or longer, I don’t know, I don’t count anymore) the though of a smoke comes to mind, like this past weekend, several times this past weekend.  It is stress related I know this.  I did not act upon it or even considered acting upon it.  I won’t do it. I find it amazing how powerful the addiction really has been. Do you think I might have a thought two, five or ten years from now?  I don’t know however my plan and intentions are to find out.
