Hi Amanada, I am not on Zoloft myself I am on Effexor but I just wanted to let you know I had a girlfriend on Zoloft for the same reason your taking it. She took it constantly though. Not just during that 10 day window frame. She said it helped her tremdously. The few other people I know who take Zoloft for Panic etc weaned themselves on very slowing thus avoiding any real side effects. Hope that helped a little. Tita

Stacey, Regarding your concern about the Zoloft dosage and the short term benefits, please keep in mind that everyone is an individual and the effectiveness will vary in each situation. From your posting it sounds like you are questioning your doctor - if you are unsure of their actions and short term effectiveness, your pharmacist can be a really great resource to find the information you are looking for. Then you could go back to your doctor with the pharmacists' findings if you still had any concerns about the doctor's prescribed dosage. Please keep us posted. Hi, I apologize in advance if this is not the right place, but I stumbled upon this post when searching "first day on zoloft". I just started last night, 50mg. Mine is for PMDD, whcih my chart and feelings tell me is quickly en route. Now, instead of just feeling like I want to CRY, I also feel like I have to vomit, and my head pounds, and my jaw is clenched shut tight unless I willfully undo it, and even then it is shakey. I am somewhat relieved to hear others say that these are kind of common side effects and that often tyey DO lessen or go away. MY main question is - I read ppl say that just give it a few weeks etc. My Dr. has put me on it JUST for my PMS time, which is for maybe 10 days total per cycle. Will my body ever get a chance to adjust to it like you have mentioned, or will I go thru this every time/month I start? Also, does that amount of days give it time to even build up in my body and WORK? Thanks in advance for any experience and info you might have! I WANT to be better, this PMDD has ruined a good half of my life lately and I SO want this to work, but I am also terrified or taking anything for it. I have never taken any meds except asthma meds for emergencies all my life. ~ Stacy

I will chime in with the keep taking it, it gets better crowd. I am on Zoloft and it has truly helped me. I had mild side effects when I first started it (a little nauseous and weight loss due to the nausea) but I don't feel any side effects now. I started at a small dose and slowly worked up to my current 75 mg a day. The side effects decreased each day until I upped the dose and then it would get a little worse the first day and again keep decreasing. I have always dreaded having to take medication to control my anxiety, but i am so glad I finally did. It is really helping.

Hang in there guys, I promise it will get better. Those first days/week is awful but your body is just adjusting to the new medication and if you feel weird just tell yourself "it is only the meds" like any side effect, even tylenol pm makes ya sleepy! The side effects will go away and soon your body will adjust and you will feel much better!!!

i am experiencing the same stuff on day 4 of zoloft. i always stop taking meds abruptly. it is perfectly normal to have these side effects in the beginning i think. i plan to continue taking the zoloft in hopes that it gets better with time and eventually helps me control my panic. right now i am jittery, bouncing off the wall, having trouble concentrating, a little nausea, and panic. i pray it will pass, though. i am also halfing my xanax to make it last longer so i can take it daily through this time. i used to be afraid of xanax but it has become my best friend here lately.

I can tell you this from MY experience. The first few days the side effects are expected and normal. The headache, tired, naseau and even higher anxiety will make you a bit nuts. If you will just give it another week and take it exactly as they said "Try morning with breakfast" those side effects will go away and you will start to feel the positive effects. I stayed on Zoloft all through pregnancy and actually the first year after my baby was born. I have now been moved to Lexapro becuae the Zoloft was not working as well anymore. I have had to go through those same basic side effects starting Lexapro.

I suffer from panic attacks and terrible anxiety. I have been on Paxil before then went off of it to try and get thru this without medication. That was a bad idea. Not only did I have the worst discontinuation symptoms that lasted forever, but my panic got out of control. I waited too long and finally went the doctor last week. She gave me Zoloft. Because of all of the side effects I had with Paxil, I was terrified to take it. I am deathly afraid of taking medication. I will not even take Tylenol. After quite a struggle last night, I took a Zoloft. This morning I have headache and stomach upset. I am the type of person who will make myself have side effects if I read them on the label. It is hard to tell if the side effects are real or are just part of my anxiety. Does anyone have any advice on how to get through this time? I have come to accept that I need medication at this point in order to get through this, but I am so afraid to continue taking it. If I was going to have worse side affects, would I have felt them already? Or will they come later this week? I just need to set a goal for myself that if I make to a certain day that I will not have to worry about side affects anymore and that if I feel funny, it probably just panic and anxiety. I would appreciate any advice people have. I already have benefited from other comments people have posted, it is what helped me have the strength to take the pill last night. Just knowing that I was not alone in my fear of medication and that other people take Zoloft and have been fine.
