The countdown to my quit date begins!

Hi,  Good for you on the class, and the quit.   I was on Chantix, but other who quit cold turkey also expressed, feeling spacey.. and kind of not totally witth the program.  So you may want to start your quit a bit before your class..

Or cut down ....  The class and work will keep you busy and you will be making new friends..

Pot when you can..

Klouie,
I think that is an excellent time to quit on the beginning of your class because you will be mostly in the classroom listening to lectures vs. thinking about smoking or having time to do so.  The only thing I would do is to start a little earlier than the 8th because I think starting a class and stopping smoking at the same day could be a lot at one time. If you can get through some days smoke free before starting the new class, I think your quit and class could go more smoothly. Whatever you decide you sound like you are ready to get it done and people here can be very helpful if you need any help getting through your quit.
Good Luck
Ron

KLouie - Quit when the time is right for you. I like your plan. I like any plan that leads to cessation of smoking. Get your head into it, get some tools in place to cope and go for it. You already know you can do it, and starting something is usually the hardest part.

Good luck!!!!

I quit on my first day of jury duty.
Since I used the patch, I was not a complete basket case or someone would have been going to jail for life!
The break in the everyday pattern gave me a good push for the first week. Very distracting.

Good luck in your quit. It's a great decision.

Thank you guys so much!
I am going to Allergy/Immunology school starting August 4th (5 weeks long) and I thought it would be a great time to quit.  New place, people, situation and habits.  What do you think?

Hi Kristen and welcome to SSC!-your story just shows you can never be complacent, 4 years is a long time but we are all vulnerable at times and thats when we need to be even more vigilant.
I am so happy you have chosen this site and programme to help you with your quit. And if you choose to go it alone this time without any drugs or NRT then there are lots of members on here who have done exactly the same and will give you a ton of invaluable advice and tips.
The best tip I can give you is to drop by here often, read others posts, and post yourself, share your quit journey the ups and the downs, and stay strong, focused and positive. Good Luck Kristen.

My name is Kristen and this will be the second time I have quit smoking.  The first time I quit for 4 years, I can't believe I started up again!  When I quit the last time I used Zyban but I think the program that it came with helped me more than the actual drug.  So I think this time I won't be using any drugs or NRTs.  So far this program looks like it will be great as long as I stick with it.  Congrats to all those that have quit and stayed quit!
