You made it! The craves were bad but you made it!!! That is awesome! Be sure to always have something around to help you cope for those major craves because they can sneak up on you right out of the blue. Back early in my quit I told myself that no matter what smoking was NOT an option. That no matter what I could not and would not buy (or bum) a smoke from anyone. I told myself that I am a NON-smoker now and that there are other things I can do to relax etc... It worked for me because even when those major craves hit it was not a option to buy a pack. (It was a promise that I made to myself)... Wow, congratulations on making it 1 whole month, GG!!! A big congrats for making it through the day, too!! Now... you know that the nicotine is out of your body!!! you know that the craves are pretty much a mental thing!!! If this comes up again, it's all mind over matter, so to speak! You have done this for a month now, and you can do it for another month!!! And then another month... Keep that positive mental attitude and your coping skills close; maybe do a little review of the reasons you really wanted to quit to begin with!!! I'm impressed GG - you didn't give in! Sounds like you used a great coping technique - when you had the craving you bought yourself some time rather than acting impulsively. If you have another craving tomorrow or the next day, remind yourself to wait - hold off and see how you feel in a little while. Cravings are all temporary states - they come & go. P.S. Hi Glasgow, you just made it one month, don't give in to the nicodemon now, it's just what the nicodemon would like. Stay strong and like Danielle said, stock up your car or where ever you used to do most of your smoking with coping stratagies. For me it was in front of the t.v set at home. I have a table next to my chair and on the table there are: hard candies, gum, lollipops, cookies, potato chips, pretzels and last but not least, my favorite, chocolate!! Am I worried about gaining weight? N.O.P.E. I'm more worried of dying from cancer than putting on weight. So hang in there, you've made it this far, YOU CAN DO IT!!!!! Glasgow_guy, Smoking is often how we relaxed after a long shift. Now that you quit, it's important to have an alternative. Stocking your car or bag with coping strategies has been found to be helpful! Danielle, Bilingual Health Educator
